Well, we knew Habib had to go obscure on us - some of Steranko's other covers are too obvious. I'm still waiting for the ___________ cover and the __________ cover!
(Psst - Rowand - we're not that amazing once you find the Grand Comic Database. I try to guess the cover on my own first, but if I get too frustrated, I go look at covers at The GCD. Even if I don't find it, I usually find something I've never seen before).

Steranko Trivia Question #2: Why did Cartoon Network ask Jaunty Jim to write the script for their JLU version of Mister Miracle? It was Jack Kirby's creation and their staff could have done their usual job on the plot.

Found this on a website:
Steranko is known for his own ability to do cosmic characters and he adapts well to the New Gods setting. It is also fitting that he should write the first animated appearance of the character that he helped inspire.

We have a winner! During the transition between Jack Kirby doing the Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Strange Tales and Jim Steranko taking over the artwork on the same series they became aquainted and Jim must have impressed Jack because escape artist and part time son of every other Ghod in the New Gods heavenscape IS indeed loosely based on Jim and his then life.
First, I thought it was cool that Jack had escaped the old Marvel "you do the work and I'll take the credit" workcamp but that he then wrote and drew Jim's symbolic escape as well.
Second, I was impressed with the level of fanboyhood shown by the Cartoon Network powers that be. They don't really get thet much right!
Last, these questions must have been way too easy for you guys to get them this fast. (I'm used to a more half-fast crowd)
rowand
05-25-2006, 09:31 PM
I'm assuming it to be true since I asked Jack about it once at a Sandy Eggo con back when he was trying to get Marvel to give him back his original artwork. He said that Jim had shown great passion about his magic and escape artistry and that writing about someone's passions was the sure fire path to interesting stories!
Big Badra did help.

Hey jae
I'm a big Steranko fan too! Most of these games I suck at, but have gotten lucky with this one and the last guess the page game.
I'm a stay at home dad, due to my son (he's disabled). So when he's in school I tend to be in front of the comp most of the time selling my wares. My auctions get a lot of questions so spend a lot of time answering those. Plus, I'm getting ready to re-open my ebay store, so that's keeping me pretty busy with scanning and soon listing.
Have I bored ya enough? LOL Rambled on for a bit that time, huh? :D

Lucky my a$$! Don't be modest. You're pretty good at this game.
And I'm not too good at the other games either. I have participated occasionally in the other games, but if you noticed, I tend to participate in the guessing games that deal with older comics. I've only bought a handful of new comics in the last decade, so I really don't know much about modern comics. I'm an old dog, and you know what they say about old dogs. But I do know about Steranko, one of the gods in comicdom.

Over the last month I have got to talk with Steranko at a couple events....the Windy City Pulp Con & the Motor City Comic Con.
He is a funny guy with tons of stories. Even got a picture of my wife with him! (I think he really doesn't like his picture taken with others)
He ran out of ink in his signing pen at the Pulp Con so my brother gave Steranko our marker so that he could keep signing! Then at the Motor City Con a couple weeks later my brother gave him another marker as a gag. Got a chuckle out of Steranko.
Over the years I have seen Steranko over half a dozen times and I must admit every time has been a treat!

Yep, you can't use luck in these games.
You guys are just plain good at it.
I can't open these threads fast enough to post a guess before someone else does.
On another note, Jim Steranko and I have had some pretty awesome email chats going back and forth a few years back.
We'd both go off on a tangent until the subject at hand goes from comic books to being about how an office fire was probably caused by a neighbour's spurned lesbian affair.
I still have his email address but I haven't sent him any emails in a while.
Maybe I should ask him about that note "Steranko is interested" at the back of the current month of DC Comics.
Not only is he a legendary artist, he's a super-friendly guy to talk to.
They broke the mold for him.

It wasn't a complaint! Just cheerleading here! I'm far too slow to participate in the game and haven't felt this out of place since I sat in a plane at LAX that was delayed on my vacation in Hawaii while Pres. Clinton got his hair done by a West Hollywood stylist.
He was in Airforce one on the far side of the Airport and the Secret Service wouldn't let any aircraft fly overhead. Three hours our engines overheated and we shut down for repairs. Note: According to the FCC we had been "in the air" for the whole time since we had left the terminal with it's bar and restaurants. That the Secret Service would allow. After 9-11, who knows?

Right! This would explain that day outside the Oval Office when Fidel Castro was seen spitting out the fine Cuban Cigar that Little Willie had just lit up for him as a gift to cement relations with the lower little Havanites.

SO, I should have alluded to Capistrano and not Santa Monica for Monica Lewinski to have been visiting the local cigar shops while misty eyed and muttering about needing to get the bill handed to her?
I don't mind crotch shots myself! A variation on the models might be more to my liking!

LOL! I was waiting for this one, ever since someone said "are the clues getting smaller?" I expected Habib to post just a totally white rectangle, with nothing in it, and a clue of "think about it" or something. What would've been better than that for The Invisible Man?? :D

Wow!
Thanks, everybody! It was a fun and challenging game. Most of the time it was a matter of timing. You guys are so good that you pretty much had to be the first to see see the clues and guess right away. I must admit the Tex Dawson was the tough one for me.
Habib, the prizes are indeed sweet! Captain America 110 is one of my all-time favorite. I don't have the Steranko Prince of Darkness , and am really looking forward to it. The cover on that is exquisite. The prizes are much appreciated!

Nah... I just go by "Stu" in real life, although a few people call me Mr. Pid :-)
Edit: Sorry, I realize now I wasn't clear. I bought the comic signed by Steranko from Previews, I've actually never met him. His Sig is a bit smudged so I got the book cheap!
