Does anyone consider any modern books to be key issues, or something you may be holding onto, in hopes of it becoming a key issue? I've got a copy of Preacher #1 that I've been holding on to.

If Modern books goes back to 1980's, I'll say that the key issue would be :

Secret Wars #8 - First black costume, later Venom
ASM #300 - first full Venom
ASM #240? - first Hobgoblin

I'd throw Ultimate Spider-Man #1 in there.

The first Hob-Gobby was ASM #238

How about Superman #75.

That is the real reason Congress voted against cloning research. Stupid Doomsday.

Thanks Camper for the clarification of ASM #238, the first Hobgoblin. I used to have this book as a kid but as time went on I lost it somehow.

Actually the Black costume appeared in many books before SW # 8. Remember Secret Wars # 1 came out the same time as ASM # 252, MTU # 142, etc.
I think ASM # 252 is considered the first Black Costume.

I'd throw Ultimate Spider-Man #1 in there.

Isn't that like a reprint book, or a re-hash, or a "What If?" story or something??? :-)

That's an actual panel from a Hulk issue. I did not Photoshop those comics there - that's the panel as published!

I was actually refering to my copy of Giant-Sized Man-Thing featuring Howard the Duck against the Hellcow (and the previous issue against Gorko, the Man-Frog)!

Her dark unmilkable udder brushed the top of his feathery crown!

They don't write them like that anymore. One day they will be worthy of speculators hording them and slabbing them and hidding them away in safety deposit boxes.

I would include Amazing Spiderman #36 911 story line and Ultimate Spiderman #5 low print run as Modern keys.
