View Full Version : Please help us help a comic shop in need!
As many of you know, central Texas was hit by a very large storm system last week resulting in massive damage to many areas. In Marble Falls, TX they received nearly 20 inches of rain overnight. The rains and floods were what they were calling a 500 year event.
One of the casualties of the floods was Gameday Cards and Comics in Marble Falls. The waters came in and gutted the entire store. Much was lost, from boxes and boxes of back issues, tons of new issues, sports memorabillia, displays, supplies...nearly everything. This is the only comic shop in the area and it's loss will impact many readers and fans. This was a great place for people to hang out after school with gaming tournaments and comic trading days. Even though it's a comic shop, a lot of young people went there and it was a safe place to spend the day. Unfortunately, their insurance will not cover it since it was caused by a flood and they were not covered for that.
The store will reopen soon, but will be without any stock, supplies or fixtures for some time.
Today I am asking for all comic fans to help this great store reopen with at least something to put on sale to start generating revenue to get back on track. It is going to cost a lot of money to get back to 100% and we all know we need all the readers and comic shops we can get.
What I am asking for is for anyone who has some extra comics, trades, comic items, sports cards etc. you can do without to please donate them to Gameday. Even if it's bargain bin stuff, he can still earn something from it. I am asking for books and supplies in case anyone is uncomfortable giving cash. We would love to raise some money as well , though, so if you want to contribute that way, you can send a check or money order payable to Gameday Cards and Comics. Those of you who know me and have dealt with me know I am honest and dependable can safely donate via PayPal. Every little bit will help!
The Comics Corral and STL Comics (http://forum.stlcomics.com/) have already committed to donate books and supplies to this awesome store in its greatest hour of need. We need your help too, though. Open up your comic boxes and unload some of those doubles or comics you won't read again. Any donation will be appreciated and will help Gameday remain a permanent fixture in Marble Falls.
Please email me at hoss@comicscorral.com if you are interested in joining this important cause.
Thanks for taking a look at this message and I hope to hear from you soon!
Please, pass the word around at any other boards or sites you visit too!

Hoss,
I don;t have anything to offer right now.. but as soon as I get back to NY and can reopen my storage I will see if I can't find something I can send. I probably at least can come up with some Magic the Gathering Cards and he's welcome to any bulk books I get when I buy a collection or two in the upcoming months.
I probably could also send him some used sci-fi books if he sells those like some shops I know.
Thanks EP! Those cards would probably be very welcome. He has tournament days a few times a week!
Let me know what you can spare! Thanks again!

I'm gonna rake through my boxes on my day off and see if I can come up with anything. It'll probably be quarter-bin stuff mostly, but it'll do them more good than it's doing me.
THANK YOU, CG! You're the man!
You have mail!
Y'know they probably have to scraping the bottom of the barrel if they start making Charlton HeroClix!

Hoss,
You need to take so pics and get them up!! I want to SEE!!!! ;)
Linda
Pics of the store? Unfortunately, all I have is a PDF of the front page of our local paper. It shows the comic store though.
Here is a link to the PDF article (http://www.dailytrib.com/trib/page1tribfri62907.pdf).
You will need Adobe Reader (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html).

Linda
Oh, yeah! I will definately take some pics of that stuff! I will try and get some at the presentation as well.
OK! The first of the packages has arrived today!
I'm also happy to report that I have a few new additions to the donor list as well!

It's not too late to jump on board with a donation! Every little bit will help, even if it's bargain box material!
If the post office / UPS are on track, then I should probably be recieving several more boxes this week! I'll be talking with Sam from Gameday tomorrow and will have an update on the store status. It will be a great surprise for him when I show up with all the comics you all have sent in.
I am leaving the boxes intact and unopened so he knows who sent him the comics, so make sure to tell me if you don't want your info given out.
Thanks again, everyone, for making the comic drive as successful as it was...but if you are still thinking about giving, it's not too late! :)

Yeah, I'm working on another short box of stuff and hope to have it in the mail by Friday! I sure hope he is going to try and reopen his store.
Hoss, didn't you say his was the only LCS in your area?
Linda
That's right Linda, the nearest shops are in Austin (which is about 50 miles).
The store will definately re-open, but whether it's at the old location or a new one will be determined soon. At the longest it will probably be a few more weeks til reopening.
Thanks for your newest donation, Linda!

Good to "Read" everyone again by the way.

Glad to hear you are back home!!

I was in the western pacific area (wink, wink, nod, nod!). I am on a sub so other than a pissed off cab driver in singapore (during a liberty port) we didn't get shot at.
We left kind of all of a sudden. (it happens some times) But we are home for a while now.
My wife has been logging on here and sending me messages to keep me updated. We don't have internet on the boat but we receive encrypted e-mail packages over the radio system every so often.
Did the sand box few years back. Have no desire to ever do that Sh$% again.
Glad to ear the hubbies home safe and sound. Afghanistan sucks!

Hoss,
sorry for the delay. I went into my storage unit today and still haven't found the box with cards.. I'll sent it as soon as I find it but it's probably going to be at least a couple of weeks.
No problem, EP!
I delivered two more long boxes this Friday to the new location of the comic store. It's still being worked on here and there, but he is reopened and putting last touches on everything.
Thanks again to those who have donated books.

If you have sent a package, but have not received a confirming email/PM from me, let me know. I want to make sure everything is accounted for. If you haven't sent yours, let me know as well, so I don't freak out wondering if it's lost!
Thanks again everyone, and I will keep you posted!
