Howdy all, thought I'd pop in to say hi since I have a moment. Japan was great but I'm really digging Korea. Saw some American comics and heroes represented in both countries - and manga just gets weirder.

If you haven't heard about cosu- (or cosi-) play it's well worth a search for some pics and some very good laughs (or being rather preturbed) about life in Japan.

Much cool stuff related to comics. Weird stuff too.

Cosi-play is the big trend in Tokyo and Osaka right now (didn't see it elsewhere) where girls dress in full costume as their favorite manga characters in an attempt to gain some attention - clearly male attention since I visited a manga hobby store called Yellow Submarine. Every customer pretty much was male - buying action figures, dolls (yeah real dolls) and whatnot of female manga charaters in varying states of either sexually suggestive or blatent poses.

you really have to see it to believe it.

No wonder the poor waifs are dressing up in costumes! They're all trying to get dates! SIGH, the sad state of global nerddom. Why, in my day, we'd have been all over them like stink on a June Bug. THEN they would have shot us all down and gone out with the cool kid.

Does make for an interesting set of police reports if there were to be any problems. "Well, Wonder Teen and Hawk Gal beat the collective stuffing out of the Scarlet Woman and the Snakeless Medusa over ..."

Do you remember the "Futurama" where Fry created a Lucy Liu robot that was verbally programable and anatomically correct. Such Fembots had long been outlawed because it had turned out that ALL human civilization was built on the simple premise of Guys wanting Girls to like them.

To prevent the end of all life and in order to get some degree of work out of the males I suppose the females banned them.

Enjoy the Orient! See all you can and report back.

You have a great camera. The pictures on the trip site look amazing. So, I hope you got plenty of pictures of the Cosites, or whatever you call them.

What's amazing is that Japanese comics are so widely read that they ARE chasing the cool kids by doing this!
