I just watched the Comic-Con '07 Preview that I taped the other night. They are going to be live on G4, July 26 & 27 from 7pm to 9pm each night.

I guess that's going to be the closest I'll get to it for a while!

I saw that show last year, they seemed to focus more on entertainment properties than on comics. Joe Q was the only comic-based star to appear on there.

I see what you are taking about MG! I have been watching it for about an hour now and all they have been talking about are the movies. Of course most of them are movies based off some kind of comicbook!

They have been talking Iron-Man and a few others. One of the polls going around is "Will J.J. Adrams be able to save Star Trek?". Halo 3 seems to be the talk around town.

I would love to go to Comic-Con but there doesn't seem to be that much about Comics. Everything seems to be movies, TV, games, etc!!

What do you think, pasnat?

My advice to anyone who wants to go to the San Diego convention: go 15 years ago. I mean it! The convention was so crowded it was hard to get around.

In fact, I only got to go one day. Saturday was sold out, as I knew beforehand. So were the four-day passes.

So I figured I'd go Thursday and Friday. I waited in line to buy my ticket Thursday, but then Friday was sold out, so I couldn't go.

Fortunately, I went through the comics section, so I saw what I needed to see. Didn't get to the manga, anime, gaming, book publishing and other non-comic sections.

So if you're only interested in comics and their creators, you'll be overwhelmed and possibly frustrated here; about 80% of the show is non-comic related.

But if you want a whole pop culture experience, and to see movie/TV stars, talk to producers, see zillions of statues, great fantasy art, etc. then register early for this con, pay for a hotel within walking distance and absorb the whole experience. It's no longer for day-trippers like me; if I go again next year, I'm doing the whole thing right.

I'll never go for those reasons. I don't care for all the hoopla, glam and flash. I'm in for the comics, and would be much better off at a smaller show elsewhere.

Me too ...wow...what a bummer. But I'm just not too interested in the movies and tv shows and the artists and artwork. I just want to see and buy great old comics I've never seen in person before.

I just saw the show in reruns, I was disappointed about it as far as content. Who cares if JJ Abrams will save Star Trek? What does he or Star Trek have to do with comics in general? I thought it was boring.

The convention is still a great place to get those hard-to-find old funny books. I collect one old obscure title from the 50s and I saw four of the approximately 10 I'm still looking for at one dealer, and another two at another dealer. I bought two reading copies and would have bought one more if I had been able to get in on Friday.

And I was in awe at one dealer's booth: 11 copies of Amazing Fantasy 15, six Fantastic Four #1's. And I probably saw about 20 Action #1 between the various dealers. I thought this book was rare!

One guy standing next to me at a booth was going through a bunch of Tim Holt cowboy comics, selected about eight of them, handed the dealer five $100 bills and left with a big smile on his face.

So if you're looking for a particular book or just want to gape at old books you'd probably never be able to afford (not me anyway), this is still the place.

It's just that the bulk of the exhibition hall is now given over to non-comic related stuff. Of course, the convention hall is so huge, just the Golden Age section alone, which would be a good convention by itself, occupies only a fraction of the space.

My sister was amazed at how many movie people were there; Jessica Alba, Nick Cage, Dane Cook, etc. The con has become a valuable test market/focus group for Hollywood.

This is still the place for comic geeks — you'll just find a lot of non-comic geeks there as well.

About 20 copies of Action Comics #1?!? Wow! You must have been standing around 33% of all the Actions #1 known to exist in the world. At last report, I knew it was about 75 known copies in the world.
