Here's a thread fo all of us hopeless insomniacs!

Tell us YOUR excuse for severe sleep deprivation and sleeping disorder!

But PLEASE only post here from the hours of 2:00-6:00! (Sillyship should LOVE this thread).

Tonight, mine has to do with a 9-month pregnant wife and a cat that reads.

That's right, only in the C.G. household is this possible. See, our cat is the cause of my sleep deprivation for this night (and many other nights). He's going on 10 years old and looks uncannily, exactly like Hoss's cat, Link. THAT's why Link freaks me out so! But get this, he like to READ. Yes. He drags around newspapers, junk mail, bills, the kid's homework, anything paper, drops it on the floor, stands over it, and READS it! YOWWWWWLLLLL! YOWWWWLLLLL! As if he's trying to TELL us something. One time he singled out the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes junk mail like he wanted us to submit it for him. I'm kicking myself for not doing it now, because I think his continued reading and yowling is because he's irate because he didn't win. Usually, I pull a Fred Flintstone routine and chuck him out the front door before I go to bed so we don't have to listen to him all night, but tonight I was tired, lazy and it was cold out, so I didn't let him out. So lo and behold and big surprise, he starts reading and YOWWWWLLLLing at 3:00 in the morning, wakes up the Charlton wife, who tries waking me up to let him out, I'm out like a light, the 9-months pregnant Charlton wife gets mad and lets him out, commences to turn on the reading light, wakes me up again and informs me I am in the doghouse, and staying there, for not letting said YOWWWWLLLLing cat out for my poor 9-months preganant wife, making me feel like a turd, waking me up as widely as I can be woken up, dazed, confused, and already drinking coffee at 4:44 a.m. and going about the business of reading Fantastic Four #236 for about the hundreth time.

That's the VERY cool issue where the team finds themselves in "Liddleville", with Ben as a tavern owner, Reed as a befuddled college professor (under the thumb of one Dr. Vaughn) and Sue as a Mary Tyler Moore type housewife and Johnny as an American Graffiti type dreaming of the origin of the FF and wondering what the heck they're all doing in "Liddleville".

I feel EXACTLY like the four of them right now.

Damn cat!

So anyway, to bring this away from the cat & marital problem for the night, have you read this issue in particular?

I find myself coming back to it time and again (FF #236).

I have kind of a love/hate thing going with John Byrne (who doesn't?) but this issue stands out for me.

The story is so Twilight Zone-esque and has some kind of primal FF feel to it.

The panels he did of the "alternate" early FF origins also stand out for me. They are a great tip of the hat to Kirby, and very well executed.

But like Hoss's cat, and my current insomnia-related dilemma, there's something about Byrne's artwork (inspired as it often is) that just rubs me the wrong way? Am I the only one?

One time he singled out the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes junk mail like he wanted us to submit it for him.

Dude that's some money making Pu$$Y you got YO!

I'll have to read that issue again, I put a post it note on my desktop.

And yes, I probably will love this thread, I'm not an insomniac, I just sleep about 6 hours a night and wake up late. Some nights I get less sleep, but I make up for it when I can, when I'm on the toilet = at least a minute, walking down the halls at school = a good 30 seconds or more, depending on how many people are in the hall at the time, and driving = Ohw, I'd say a good 5 minutes a day.

SO CG, What are the boy and girl names your thinking of? Let me guess, Sue and Ben?

I am still up because I have lost a minor shitload of $$ playing online poker tonight (OK, only $50 but that's a good chunk of my bankroll). It's either bad beat after bad beat, or my pocket pair running into a larger pocket pair. Ugh!!

I've already cashed out some profit ($100), so I'm just playing with other people's money, but goddamn it, it is frustrating to lose to players who don't play as "well" (technically) as I do. Rationality gets trumped by luck every time!

I'm usually a late night person. In the past, I liked to read horror comics when I stayed up late. I used to have a pile of House of Mystery and House of Secrets that I would read. The stories are campy but I like the art by Adams, Wrightson, Toth, Alcala, Nino, Kaluta, Redondo, etc.

It's 2 and I just got done working on one of my sculptures, have almost finished a 40 of Miller and will sleep soon.... Or not.

So it is pretty late (or early) here. We had a few folks over to celebrate one of my roomates graduation from college. That always equals a good time. I am just triying to figure out what is going on with our government? The number one CIA guy steps down a few days ago, and now the number three guy's home is being raided. What is it about drinking that brings out religion and politics?

Well it is about time to read a little and go to sleep.

Well it's 5:59 am in New York when I start this post but its 7pm here in Kyoto. So I'm not really an insomniac at this point but I've just started dropping by more and more at the Corral since I have access to the web from here.

Wish I still had a cat though.. miss the little critters especially in the AM hours when everyone else is asleep.

This thread is intended for late night comic book discussion.

However, 40 ouncers, the CIA, poker and Kyoto seem to fit right in to those parameters.

As for Kyoto, are the cherry blossums in bloom?

As for late night poker? Deal me in.

As for the CIA, they're pretty much obsolete now aren't they. I mean, the NSA is running the show now, right?

As for 40 ouncers before bed? Bad idea. I hate 3:00am bathroom runs.

As for House of Mystery? I'm with you there. I have a stack of readers that I keep for late night reading as well. And don't forget the Ramona Fradon work. She rocks!

tired....So tired, and sick of school... 3 more days, only three more days and then I can sell my comics and work this welding job I got, but all of that is only one month and then it's school time again and I have a totally hard summer session. One class, anthro, is four days a week 8:30 to 10 four days a week. ughhhhhh. And I have two more classes as well, bronze casting and studio practice. My life is all work and no play and even though my name is not Jack I am becoming a dull boy.

Ok, lets say you get bit by a radio-active mongoose. Does that mean you would begin to take on traits of a mongoose? If so, should you then use these powers to fight crime or kill snakes. That is a tough dilema!

I like the idea of Wonder Woman but come on, a Lasso. They could do better than that. Atleast it is really strong, then there is that whole truth thing that pops up from time to time. She is a very feminist character, which is great. Girl power and all, which is a very under-represented segment of the comic world. Then why does she wear such a skimpy outfit. That doesn't fit with the rest of the character.

If Bruce Lee would have been biten by a radio-active bee, would he have become Bruce Bee? If so, would he then be able to kick your ass, then pollinate it after.

Ok, I am done. Go about your normal comic posting.

Then why does she wear such a skimpy outfit. That doesn't fit with the rest of the character.

It gives her freedom of movement AND she is tough enough to kick yer ass if you get too fresh! Confident women aren't afraid to flaunt their womanly attributes and usually couldn't care less if Joe Average wants to ogle.

It's only 1:00 a.m. but it may as well be 4:00. It's still over 95 degrees outside and I have the a/c running now. An old Bob Hope movie is on TCM now. I don't know the name of it. It looks like a Maltese Falcon spoof of some sort. Peter Lorre is in it-- Hope is narrating and playing a private eye. I better turn it off otherwise I'm liable to stay up all night watching it. I can't do that being that I have to get up in a few hours. Click! It's off now. Alright. I'm done for the day. Let me grab a book to read and force myself to sleep. Later.

zzzzzzzz

So a person with super powers suddenly decides not to conform to society's standards and they become a villian. Perhpas it isn't as cut and dry as that?

Well, not quite 4:00 in the morning (though it sure as hell feels like it right about now), but time to resurrect this thread...

Anybody have a donut?

fulltimer56
12-07-2006, 06:35 AM
No Donuts around here, damn it!!! My Mom got my last one yesterday and I haven't been back to Dunkin' Donut yet!!

Hi CG,

Did you get my PM?

Linda

The Charlton Guy
12-07-2006, 06:52 AM
Gottcha Linda.

You da best.

And when you do get around to getting to D.D.?

Stay away from the ones with the sprinkles or that creamy filling. Nasty stuff.

Me? I'm an "Old Fashioned" kind of Guy...

With HOT cofee. With about 10 teaspoons of sugar (I like to have a candybar's worth of diabetic shock left at the bottom of the cup, that makes up for the creamy filling I guess...).

Well it's 4:30 something back in CA if I understand it..

and I'm sitting here trying to figure out if I have time to see Malaysia, Bali and Singapore before I head to Australia.

I'll probably opt for the cheapest tickets I can get but it' a dilemma. Anyone ever been to any of them?

I can't CG, I just can't. School is done now and I'm back to a working man's schedule. It's 10:27 according to my little Padi and I am already working on a beer and cigar buzz. I have to sleep earlier now, but my heart is with you on this all night thing and one day again I will be a night owl.

Well, it ain't 4:00 by any stretch, but it is 11:28 EST on Christmas night, the Charlton Kidlets are all in bed with visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads, and I'm so wired, so tired that I just may stay up for a week or so out of sheer joy and exhaustion.

Doc! How ya doin'!

Fall off any mountains lately?

"Tasmania, Tasmania, how brightly shine your emu!
Tasmania, Tasmania, I'll e'er rememb'r your lean-to!
How in the sun, your mountains shine!
And in the night, your emu whines!

When beaks are bright in summertime,
Then wingless birds begin to shine!
Tasmania, Tasmania, how brightly shines your emu!"
