Many collect the Marvel price 30 cent or 35 price variants but Gold Key comics also had their own price variants!

Here is a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #12 with a 15 cent cover price instead of 12 cents.

Any info on these Silver Age price variants??

It seems to be around May of 1968 when they did the price variants but I can't seem to find any of the covers! Sorry

I'm only guessing here, but they are likely one of two things...

1. They were testing the market like Marvel did in the 70's with the 30 & 35's. This would likely mean they were limited distribution to only a few markets/cities around the country.

2. They were for the Canadian market. This is quite common for Marvel books especially in later years. There were a ton of them in the 80's that were $.75 Canadian instead of $.60 US.

My bet is on the second one. If you go over to Stl in the Variant Mafia forum and post this same thread, you might get a better answer from one of my guys. I'm always surprised at just how much stuff they know (one of them just snatched up the CapAm Shan-Lon you had on ebay).

Unlikely they were Canadian market books. Cover price was at parity for all comics until the 80's. However, some Canadian reprintings back in the GA did have higher price tags ... but this was quite rare.

I just pm'd you with the necessary info to login @ Stl. #woohoo#

I thought that Cap went cheap, but ask yourself: How many people are looking for that book?

The answer: A couple guys at Stl. No one else gives a shit. Until that changes, those books will sell for pocket change. #oldie#

There ya go, straight from a Canuck. So, that leads me to believe that they were made to test markets or possibly as an unlabeled later printing.
