Well, here ya go:

...now infamous in the GA section of the Boards, these are the 2 "coffee can" comics I purchased on eBay several months ago.....so nicknamed due to them having been stored in a coffee can for 50+ years according to the seller. The 1st few pics were taken by the seller for the auction, and the last 4 I took..... the books just arrived back to me today from Matt Nelson.
The point of this thread......with all the questionable negative threads and "press" over pressing in our hobby, who here thinks that this is not the best case for pressing 2 books............ever?

#hello# I got a question? If you was to put comics like these in a bag and board then put them in a full comic box and let them stay there for awhile wouldn't that flatten them and would that be pressing?

Incidental pressing which happens to books in storage is not quite a stressful on the books. That's not to say you cannot damage books with incidental pressing it is just that there is only pressure involved in the equation. Not heat or moisture both of which do stress fibers. Heat especially.

Even pressure pressing though would not "fix" these books though. Even Matt "the press king" Nelson could get the wave out. These were not simple bends or creases.

I should add that if I had had the money there is no doubt I would have bid on these. Despite those wicked bends those are nice books. (They are nice even after The Pancake Man's press job)

...The Pancake Man... LOL!

I was an inch away from bidding on and winning this book.

I just missed auction's end because I had to pump out my basement again...what a pisser.

But I'll tell ya, I have had a few GA massive-foldover copies like this and it really takes very little time (in the overall scheme of things) to get them flat and sweet, just by putting them in the proper sleeve, in the proper short or long-box.

Stick a few volumes of Encyclopedia Brittanica on top of 'em for a few weeks? Hell! Yer all set!

But the quick flip rules the market these days, so who has time for that kid stuff.

Send 'em to The Pancake Man! Slab 'em! Flip 'em! Buy some more!

From my recollection, BOTH books went for a handsome piece of change, as if they ALREADY had the kinks pressed out, the prices bordering on "slabbed already" levels!

The pressing did nothing to remedy that missing lower left corner onthe More Fun, yet it was bid up to a closing price that seemingly didn't reflect the missing corner OR waves one bit!

If you think about it .... this happens all the time & people never mention it when selling books. I've even gone into comic shops and looked through some long boxes that were jam packed and you had to take some books out to look through the box.
