I knew he had been having some trouble with his Blood Pressure but he started having shortness of breath and some chest pains so he has been flown to a close by town that has a bigger med center and he most likely will be flown back to Bagram. I heard from his tool buddy Art this morning at around 1:30am and one of the brothers (Union) that I have met called me this morning around 8:30am and that's the last I have heard anything.
I talked to Arthur myself last night both on the phone and on the internet which was his Sunday Morning and he told me he was feeling better so I don't know what's going on! I'm hoping that it's just the Doc there at the field base not taking any chances and it's just to have him checked out but like I said I don't know!!
So PLEASE keep us in your thoughts and prayers!!

I talked to Arthur at around 4:30am this morning and again at about 8:15am this morning. When I talked to him on Saturday evening he was feeling pretty good but when he got up in the middle of the night to go to the restroom he said he got up and hit the floor. That was when he was first when in the Base hostital then he was air lifted to another hostial that was bigger and he was hooked up to some machines so he couldn't get to a phone to call me. That is the reason the tool buddies were calling me. But he was released to go back to the company compound there at the Base and he is having to have his blood taken every (I think) 6 hours and he is on complete room rest (No Work). They are still talking about sending him to Bagram (Really Big Base) to have some test run but he/we ain't sure yet. He might or might not be sent home.
His blood work was good and his EKGs are good so they just don't know what is wrong with him at this point in time.
I did my crying last night and I'm not going to say I'm not going to worry but at least I heard his voice and I was able to talk to him.
I would like to thank all of y'all for your good wishes, great thoughts and prayers. It's very nice to know there are folks out there who care.
Love y'all,
Linda

Sounds like a somewhat common and hopefully non-serious BP crash. I have a buddy that happens too once in a while. He gets checked out regularly but the doctor isn't really concerned unless it happens "frequently" (whatever that means!). Might be best if he gets back here, though - the U.S. pretty much has the best health care available!
Stay strong and optimistic!

Thanks everyone!!
Arthur is feeling fine now but he will be getting to the BIG base tomorrow and he will be taking a stress test then. If he passes it, he will be able to stay as far as we know but if he doesn't pass he will have to come home which is fine by me. It just means he will not be able to get all the toys he was hoping to buy (guns, new truck, tools, bike, etc)!!
I'll keep ya'll posted.
Thanks,
Linda

Good luck Linda.
I'm sure He realizes that toys don't mean much if He isn't there to play with them.
Give him all the best from us!

I hope the test turns out well. In the best case scenario Arthur will pass his test, finish out his time in Afghanistan, and return to you in Georgia.
Of course if he doesn't pass his stress test, 2 out of 3 ain't bad either. You'll see him sooner and won't be apart any more. He just won't have his toys (yet).

That's what I told him!! He just wouldn't be able to get all his toys at once!! But you guys know how it is!!
He will be flying to Bagram at 11:30 in the morning his time (that's about 3:30 tonight for us) and will be going right to the hospital for the test so I might not get to talk to him again until tomorrow evening if then. So we all have our fingers cross hoping there won't be anything wrong.

Arthur is being sent to Germany in the morning (his time, about 9:00 tonight ours) They think he has a blockage but they ain't sure. All the guys there have ask to go with him but they only need one to go and I believe it will be his boss. I don't know anything else yet and I haven't talk to Arthur since last night (our time) and I'm really, really worried. I'm checking airlines for prices on tickets just in case.
Bless ya'll,
Linda
Update:
I haven't heard anything else yet but I do have some good news! His company is ready to fly me over to Germany as soon as we hear something. And Thank God, because I have been online checking airline prices and the cheapest I have found was $1,998.00 with Continental Airlines.

We're all pulling for you and Arthur...
Where do they think the blockage is?
Gallinator

They fixed my dad's latest blockage a few weeks ago with the insertion of a stent. It's a pretty easy procedure with quick recovery. The technology nowadays is amazing!

I'm glad they found what could have caused him to collapse, it's better then not knowing. Hopefully they found it soon enough so that it's an easy "fix".

What Gallinator said...
Don't worry...the doctors nowadays are simply amazing.
My mom had major blockage of her carotid artery that was causing a series of ministrokes. A shunt there cured that problem.
Then they discovered major blockages to all of the arteries and veins leading to the heart after a serious stroke. No problem. A little quadruple by-pass from a doctor who was younger than I, with the one of the best reps in NY, and 5 DAYS LATER she was out of the hospital and immediately felt and performed BETTER than when she went into the operation. Eight years later (she was 76 at the time of the operation) she has a new lease on life and just keeps on ticking. The bionic Grandma.
What I'm getting at is, no matter how huge the blockage or problem seems, these procedures are practically routine these days and have great results.
I hope you are winging your way to Germany and hope that all goes well.

Newest update:
Arthur called me early this morning 5:30am (my time) and told me the flight had been canceled (sp) but he would hopfully be going out on the next one. There is fighting in South Afghanistan so the planes went down there (he is in North Afghanistan).
He has a partial blockage of the artery that supplies blood TO the heart itself. He DID NOT have a heartattack. Thank GOD!! The Doctor told him that the pain and tightness he was feeling was just the warning his body was giving him "saying get it fix or else". As soon as he gets to Germany, the doctors will be putting in a shunt (sp) and then he will be coming home.
He is going to ask the Doctors how long they think he will be in Germany and if it is only for a day or two I'm not going to fly there. He said it wouldn't be worth it for just one or two days since the flight is over 19 hours long. But if he is going to be there longer I WILL be going. I don't care what he says!!
Linda
P.S. Boy, I'll be glad when Hoss gets that "Spell Checker" up and running!! :)

Thought this link on the stent might be interesting. This is probably what they will do for Arthur. While my dad had one put in on an emergency basis, it frequently is a planned treatment (my father-in-law scheduled and received one last year, at his convenience).
http://www.fda.gov/hearthealth/treatments/medicaldevices/stent.html
My dad got the drug-eluting type, which helps maintain clear arteries.

I will be flying to Germany this afternoon. So I don't know if I will have internet access there. Arthur called me early this morning and told me he failed his stress test and they are going to have to do surgery in Germany because they don't want him on a plane for the amount of hours it would take him to get to Atlanta. So I'm flying there to be with him.
They are taking him by ambulance to another hospital for the surgery so I'm not even sure when I will see him.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers!
God Bless you,
Linda
P.S. Ya'll have fun with the games and play nice together!!

Hi everyone,
I'm in Germany now and Thank God Arthur didn't have to have the surgery!! They did that thing where they send a probe up into the heart and his arteies (need that spell checker, hoss) and they are clean. They have changed his Blood Pressure meds and they think that might have been the trouble all along. Of course I didn't say "I told them so" when they did that because that is one of the first things I told Arthur to tell them. But of course I'm not a Doctor, I guess!!
They are going to send Arthur back to Afghistain on Tuesday and I'll be coming back to the States then too.
Internet accss here is for the birds so would someone please check on the ebay comic board and let them know this info? I have a thread there too.
Thanks,
Linda

Hi Guys & Gals,
I'm back in the US and Arthur is on the way back to Afghistain. I got home yesterday afternoon and I have talked to him last night.
Boy, that trip just about did me in. Over 10 hours on a plane and we hit some bad weather too and it made for a hairy ride let me tell you!!
The meds that they put Arthur on are working GREAT. He said it was like having a "Tune-up" and has felt this good in months!
He told me to tell all of y'all THANK YOU for the thoughts and prayers, that it means a lot to him and Folks, It Means The World To ME!!
Thank You
I'm going though email and the two boxes of snail mail my Mom has put up for me and that don't count all the boxes and packages I have got too. So I'll be talking with ya'll later!
Love ya'll,
Linda
