Good grief.

A classic book, but with a stripped cover, it likely won't ever sell that high. I say this with a fair amount of confidence as I've sold stripped copies of Superman #12 and 16. They did well for stripped copies, but nothing like copies that aren't. #oldie#

"A high grade book except for the missing title on the cover."

Is that anything like "A Gem Mint 1893s Morgan Dollar except for the hole drilled through the middle"?

If Good is about $300, I can't see a Poor going for over $100, unless he got lucky enough to find exactly the right buyer needing a centerfold.
I pay close attention to this book because it's one of the highlights of my collection. I negotiated a VG-F for $100 at my LCS about 15 years ago. It's opposite a Batman #47 in an album, and I'm not parting with them.
I'll post scans as soon as I figure out how to attach them from Photobucket. Any day now.

It's the bottom of the 4 links (IMG Code), just left click the link, it auto-copies, then paste it here.#oldie#

Don't them kind of book come about because when a book didn't sell in the old days, they would take off the front cover or cut it in half so the seller could get credit for it?

Yes, they tore off the titles in order to return them for credit. Just like now, it was much cheaper to ship only some slips of paper rather than the whole comics. In many cases the comics would then be thrown away. In a few cases though, someone kept them for readers, and that is why there are still some of them floating around. A guy I know uncovered a large collection of them out in Kansas City a while back. Those two books I showed you earlier were from that collection along with these:

Action Comics #44

The collection was of course only worth a fraction of what it might have been. The books that were there though still made it a nice find. It was almost all DC superhero stuff. I was lucky enough to see the whole collection together the day after he found it.

Yup... that's why I eventually ended up selling it and the other books from that collection. It is kind of like seeing a good friend with his arm chopped off all the time.
