View Full Version : Adventure (?) issue

I'm trying to find the issue number of an early ' 70s issue of (I'm pretty sure) Adventure, while Supergirl was in it, with only a tiny thing to go on. It was soon after her new costume (which there was a sort of publicity campaign about), which would make it shortly after # 397. This will make me sound easily titillated (not that I'm not), but the one scene I remember showed a fight scene where her new costume was torn in a lot of places, because it turned out that it wasn't proof against being torn like the earlier one. Can any thorough-going fan of Adventure or of Supergirl tell me which issue it was, from that very small description?

Well, I'd say it's definitely after #397, which I believe was the last one to feature Supergirl's original costume and the first to feature her horrifyingly awful thigh-high boots costume. But perhaps prior to #410 which was the first to feature her most familiar pre-crisis uniform, the puffy-blouse and hot-pants version. It's hard to say, she kept changing costumes there for awhile, even after the hot-pants version debuted.

Adventure Comics was such of gem of the comics world, lasting over 500 issues. What a shame that DC let that one go.

I'm sorry I can't help you, Grant! I don't have them issues yet! But check out the costume on the cover of Adventure Comics #409!

It's funny you should show that, because I've seen it and it makes me think of the one I described, except that it seems to be an actual design, not a messed-up costume. Am I right about that?

I have several issues of the Supergirl Adventure stuff so I will take a look at what I have and see what I come up with.

I have a minor gap in my Adventure collection from 373 to 414, so I guess I'm useless on this one too.

I've got my Adventure books scanned in Photobucket but I couldn't find one where her costume is tattered. I'm missing a few from the Supergirl run, though.
Is it one of these covers?

Hi camper,

I can't believe you are selling your CGC Batmans!!!??? How many watchers do you have on the auctions?

Linda

Hi Linda.

I've got 4 watchers, no Best Offers and so far 119 users have viewed the auction.
I'm not really interested in selling them but I need to make room in this house. I have Batman CGC 9.8 #605 and #621 on the way so those aren't even listed in my auction.
66 long comic boxes plus 6 CGC boxes (25 per box) plus a box full of Treasury comics takes up a pile of space.
The asking price is a bit steep ($7,199.00) so if they do sell, I can use the money to continue renovating this house. If they don't sell, I get to keep them.
I may do the same with the Treasury books.
I may also do the same with my full run of the original Conan the Barbarian series #1 to #375....I know how much you love Conan!

Lately, I've been buying up Marvel Masterworks books and DC Archives books.
That way, I can liquidate my original comics that are reprinted in these editions.
My fiancee just purchased the X-Men Omnibus Hardcover for me (reprints GS #1, #94 to 131, Annual #3 - what a woman, she's a keeper)!
Doing this will free up a ton of space in the house plus I still get to read the original stories in full colour.

It is awesome how big it is and one of the best runs in comics.

I know what you are talking about camper when it comes to having room for your comics! I'm getting the DVD-ROMs and I'm really enjoying them too. I wish that DC would come out with one for my Superman titles! :(

Well, GOOD LUCK with your auction. And keep me in mind if/when you sell your Conan! Of course I most likely will not be able to afford (sp) them!! :o

Things get OT pretty quickly here I see.#blahblah#

In answer to the OP's question I think the issue in question is Adventure 399.

#400, splash following, has Supergirl mending her outfit and explaining that it didn't fare too well in her last adventure.

Regrettably, I don't have a copy of 399 or I could check. Anyone here care to oblige?

DC just didn't know what to do with Supergirl in that Adventure series. Her on again/off again powers was just dumb.

the one scene I remember showed a fight scene where her new costume was torn in a lot of places, because it turned out that it wasn't proof against being torn like the earlier one. Can any thorough-going fan of Adventure or of Supergirl tell me which issue it was, from that very small description?

Don't know if the OP is still around, but in Adventure 399, Supergirl gets shot at which leaves one small hole in her outfit, hence having to repair it in 400.

The issue which shows a fight scene that results in multiple tears is actually Adventure 404, which was part of a story arc about Supergirl losing her powers.

In 406, her costume catches fire while rescuing people from a burning building, so she changes back to Linda clothes and lets the costume burn.

In 409, she wears the Supergirl Swimsuit Edition.

Hope this helps, if you're still out ther.
