Civil War #2

Joe Quescadilla says this will stick as far as Marvel continuity goes...

And how far is that?

Hey, let's give Marvel at least ONE meaningful plot twist (every 10 years).

I have yet to read it my self but the DJ on my local radio station ruined for me. He was talking about it yesterday and he said he was mad that he revealed his ID. a self proclaimed Life long Spider-man fan he said he was not happy with Marvels choice on the ID reveal. I almost called him and let him know he just ruined it for me but he did mention Civil War and should make people want to check out comics that dont read them so thats ok.

I am disappointed. This is the type of thing that is a blast for a writer to tell and will be a killer story, but where do they go from there? As I posted on eBay, part of the appeal is having Peter Parker so distinctly seperated from Spider-Man. That is now gone and much of the dramatic irony that has made Spider-Man stories so interesting and compelling will be gone with it.

Jeez, I thought Millar was writing Civil War, not JMS.

Revealing his ID seems out of character to me. Quesada is doing this just so he can get rid of MJ (either divorce or death). Everything Marvel does lately turns me off more and more...

And I'm thinking the last issue of Civil War will have a House of M logo somewhere and Scarlet Witch shows up and says "Cancel that 'no more mutants' thing I said earlier..."

So Aunt May is still alive and will snuffeth upon hearing the news or has she joined Uncle Ben already?

MJ's survival will certainly be threatened. A group of protective New Yorkers might help out.

He will get the better tables at restaurants! And be bumped up in lines at the various mortuaries he will be frequenting!

I just found out about the identity reveal on Marvel's web page.

I have CW #2 coming in a couple of days via mail order and I couldn't wait just a couple of days to check out the Marvel.com, could I?

No, I had to get the damn spoiler (completely by accident) from the web page and destroy any and all "HOLY @*@!!" factor when I actually read the book.

Sassafrass.

So, are they gonna "kill" Peter again, so that they can put the genie back in the bottle?

This is actually gonna run some issues...

WAY-TOO-LATE MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!

I figured I didn't have to run a SPOILER ALERT when I first posted this thread because it had made the National news network. Apparently AP, Reuters, etc. ran in Nationally and Internationally, so I actually heard about it on a radio show as well. What a spoiler....I agree.

But then I said to myself, "Self? You would have heard about this long before it made the press anyway, 'cause you don't even collect or read Spiderman books these days anyway."

But I do get any Marvel series that have an FF appearance, so I knew I had to snag Civil War, but I hadn't gotten around to reading it. Actually, I don't read much at all of modern releases, I mainly save and collect them for a rainy day, a kid-free night (like tonight) or just to keep a full run going.

But the premise of this one intrigued me. It is a radical polar shift for Spidy. The whole "World Against the Superheroes/Superheroaes Against Each Other" thing has been over-beaten like any dead horse, but Spidey letting loose with his ID? That's just nuts, right?

Well, I read up Civil War #1, #2 and AS #532 tonight and I must say, for a modern book (none of which impress me greatly), this is a very cool premise and a fairly artfully and well-written gig. They certainly rushed the whole "Mandatory Licensing" thing, but it is a fairly reasonable and convincing tangent, given the events of Civil War #1. And of course, now I am suckered into buying ALL of the cross-over issues (stupid).

But I am TOTALLY in the dark about this "you're like a father to me" thing that Peter has going with Tony. How the heck did that come about? (I told you I'm not into Spidey much these days, I mainly am just stuck on the SA Ditko and Romita issues). Please advise!

The whole conversation between Peter, Aunt May (who I can't BELIEVE hasn't kicked the bucket yet) and MJ was very convincing as well, but this whole Tony Stark/Peter thing, I just don't get it.

But that aside, I still think that Aunt May's reasoning with Peter was well done. Now that I have checked out the story, I am pretty excited about the implications of this whole scenario. It will make for some interesting twists across the Marvel Universe. And Cap as a government/SHIELD hunted renegade? Who'da thunk it?

And on top of all of this, one of my all-time FAVORITES make a cameo and looks to play a role in this whole crossover mess. Yes. THE WATCHER is back! Things could get interesting...

I liked the whole premise of PP reveal. I have read all the Road to CW, CW Frontline, and CW so far. It is excellent reading. I've seen the preview covers for upcoming Spidey books and it looks good. There's a story coming up about PP/Spidey in school teaching while the kids are in awe of him and Flash is suddenly his best friend again. Wow! What a great concept. That's exactly what Spidey needs is a shot in the arm and boy, does it deliver. It's not only the Spidey books that has changed but the others like Cap, Iron Man, and what else is out there. There's a new Heroes for Hire ongoing that deals with hunting down heroes like the law says. Marvel has done a great job that is very understanding unlike the Distingushing Competition crisis which is hard to understand for me.

I'm shocked that the reveal has garnered national attention since the death of Superman. I read somewhere that Civil War #1 has sold between 200,000 and 250,000 copies and that's first print. Like Joe Q said on TV, #2 isn't the biggest thing in the series yet, wait for more, oh my gosh, the fanboy in me couldn't possibly fathom what's in store next.

It wasn't you who spoiled the news, CG, it was Marvel themselves.

The thing about me that you have to understand is that I literally do live in a cave under a rock. I have to steal internet access from my neighbor. He's a nice guy; I think he's Arab or something, but a little extreme in his hatred for America. I had no idea that this thing was getting national attention the way that it has, either.

Still, I don't know the whole of the Tony Stark/Peter Parker thing. All I know is from The Other on and that Peter and family are living in the Avengers tower and Tony Stark is abnormally close to MJ. Weird stuff, there.

I have yet to read the actual issue in question here and form an opinion, but until then I can continue to BUMP this post with vague, semi-off-topic replies.

Hmmm...

Scene 1: Peter Parker is trying to lecture a class whose members are too awed by the fact he is Spider-Man to listen.

Scene 2: Villain A and Villain B crash through the windows and mow down all of the kids in an attempt to kill Peter Parker, who oh-so-thougtfully outed himself and still tried to teach in a public school. Peter, of course, easily evades the attack with his goddamn-ain't-it-cool new spider speed and stuff.

Scene 3: Peter has the blood of innocents (literally) on his hands.

Scene 4: Public outcry at Peter's audacity (thinking he could lead any semblance of a normal life after his reveal) causes Congress to declare all Supers who aren't direct agents of SHIELD to be rounded up as Public Enemies and executed for their reckless endangerment of civilians.

Scene 5: At the behest of Tony Stark, Peter turns himself in and is executed on national television.

Scene 6: Tony Stark is revealed to be Spidey-villain Quentin Beck AKA Mysterio, who died over in Daredevil but was resurrected in X-Statix Presents: Dead Girl #1

Scene 7: That's it, we're done, no more Spidey - hell, all of his readers dropped the books anyway, right?

The whole conversation between Peter, Aunt May (who I can't BELIEVE hasn't kicked the bucket yet)

Rowand asked the same question - yes, Aunt May is still alive. Although, they did kill her off in ASM #400, with a very nice story of May telling Peter she always knew he was Spider-Man. It was a very touching issue - which they totally ret-con'd after many months and said Aunt May was alive! The newly resurrected Norman Osborne had actually been the mastermind behind it - "In her most recent "death", the "Aunt May" who died was, in a widely-derided plot twist, revealed to be a "genetically-altered actress" who impersonated her while May was held captive by villains (GG)."

Who writes this crap?

I can't remember who wrote that story but her "death" happened in ASM #400. You get the idea and start from there.

I finally read this issue.

And the issues leading up to it.

I thought they were all fairly well written and the lead up in Amazing was by far my favorite of the Civil War stuff.

I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical leading in to the Civil War, but so far I have loved every issue (except for T-Bolts, but I have no idea what's even going on in the book, so...) and can't wait to see where it goes.

Things are just heating up now and it promises to only get better.

OK this explains the image of Aunt May showering I keep seeing on the eBay comics board. They were going for the whole Dallas shower scene where Bobby comes stepping out of the wet a full year after he had died.

They probably pulled the idea after seeing the Aunt May in the shower artwork!

Permanent death in comics? Who did they think it was, Bucky?
