I'm thinking about going to the NY Comic Con in April, 18th to 20th. Does anyone on the list have suggestions on an inexpensive hotel in the area of the Javitz center? What kind of rates should I expect. (obviously I haven't done a lot of planning so far :)

Happy Holidays!

http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com says April 18th to 20th. I think this was the one if Feb last year but it's been moved to a warmer month

I'll be there with Byron and Maria (TVComics Booth) all three days. I'll be bringing along 900 Raw 12 cent Marvels from all of their titles except Sgt Fury.
About 400 of the books will be in the 7.0 - 9.0 range. and there should be about 50 or so from my Original purchases (The Sids Luncheonette Collection) from 1962 up to early 1965.

This has been a great Con the last two years and looks to be even bigger and better this year. Personally i can't wait to finally meet Joe Kubert and get him to sign the oversized Print RedHook made of my OO copy of B&B #44. (it'll look great alongside the similar print of Mystery in Space #90, signed at last years convention by Carmine Infantino).

Hope to see some of you there.................Harry.

Alright, it's 10 PM EST and I'm heading out to the NYC show in about 7 hours. I'd better get some sleep, I'm going to need it!

Wish me luck,

Wow, what an adventure! 4.5 hours driving each way was rough, I may be getting to old for this kind of thing (nah!) but the show was worth it. It was almost as good as San Diego, which is a high compliment. I wish I could have stayed to see the crowds today, Saturday should be jamming

Many publishers and manufacturers setup displaying there new projects, notably lacking was Marvel who you'd think would have setup for this large crowd in their own back yard.

One thing I've always enjoyed about San Diego is the number of people who go all out with costumes. There were a few very good ones at the NYCC but I guess Southern California breeds that kind of effort better than the East Coast. I wish I had brought a camera...

The variety of dealers was pretty good and I hunted down quite a few bargains. I was somewhat surprised at the prices being asked for some books, graphic novels, etc. Many dealers priced themselves out of my interest or view of reality but setting up at NYCC is pretty expensive so I guess they have to cover their costs.

On the other hand, there were at least a dozen vendors selling Graphic Novels and trades at 40 to 50% off cover. If you were looking for those books you had plenty to pick from!

Parking was ridiculous! I "paid through the nose" at $50 (posted price was $35) I got there early enough to get into a lot right across from the Javitz center and I was able to make a few trips to the car to unload so I guess it was worth it... The Pope was in town on the same day which screwed up traffic and added to the parking problem

If you're into toys there was a lot to see, Mattel and other manufacturer's were out in force! There were lots of promotional items, not my cup of tea but I'm sure they're already available on ebay.

I was happy to see quite a few prominent artists advertised for "Artist's Alley" although most were not available on Friday, again I was I could have stayed for Saturday!

The "Small Press" area was also well populated and displaying many interesting projects. There's a general sense of stagnation in the comics industry in my opinion, I hope some of those guys survive to pump some new blood into the industry

The convention center was easy to get around and the vendor's were grouped so you could spend time in your area of interest without running all over the place. The usual $5 hot dogs were not appetizing but the street vendors made up for it and having a cooler in the car helped me stay on budget.

All in all, a very good time!

I was there - it was FUNNNNN!! Had a great time - bought WAAAY more than I should have! Caught several of the panels, but I was really disappointed that I missed out on the panel for the new Spirit flick; still, I got into the one where they showed the new Hulk trailer (it was PACKED!), so it's all good! I came away with plenty of swag, including one in particular that I was pumped about - I'm a big ARG fan, and I got "picked" for one, which is the first time I've ever gotten chosen for one of these! I mean, I've played several online, but you always hear about guys who get random phone calls, or those people at the San Diego con who got "invites" that led them to see the first trailer. In this case, I was walking along the floor when a guy randomly handed me a little plastic sewing kit covered in a bunch of code and the words TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR DESTINY, with the address FraternityofWeavers.com. When I got home, I visited it - apparently they're starting a new ARG for the movie WANTED!!! Since that's one of my favorite TPBs, I was REALLY excited about that!

The only thing I would complain about is what dhennen already mentioned; not enough cosplay people! Of course, *I* wasn't in costume, so I guess I don't really get to complain... :p
