I have some comics I would like some advice on. All are key issues, two I am thinking about sending to CGC. I have never sent anything there so I don't know if it is even worth doing but anyway...

Spider-man Annual #1 - has a weird hole through the entire comic. I think the hole is from a bug of some kind. What do you think?
- there are three pics, how would you grade it?

Green Lantern #76 - another nice key issue but some damage to the spine again I think it was bugs. One third of the spin of the cover is gone. Still a nice looking book. What grade would you give it?

Conan #1 - really nice book, the upper staple is slightly bent. What grade would you give it?

Tomb Of Dracula #1 - beautiful book, small tear from the top of the comic to the 'm' in Tomb in the blue 'Marvel Comics Group' tag.

I am not selling these comics but would really appreciate your advice. The Green Lantern is the only one I have had for any length of time. I got it cheap at a little convention in Ottawa, Ontario about ten years ago.

Some large pics or scans would be real helpfull.Hard to grade something sight unseen but the damage you mention doesn't sound too promising.

I am having trouble posting the pictures.

Here are some more of the pics. Sorry about the quality. I am not used to taking pictures like this.

I am one that would say that you can get anything that you want graded. However, I would not bother especially since you are not thinking of selling them. The Green Lantern is especially not worth the cost output since the grading may cost more than what you would get for the book if you were to sell it. I would the most inclined to get the Spider-man and Conan graded but again they are not particularly that high of a grade to make it really worth the cost of the grading.

Ox said what I was thinking too. In just my opinion only cgc comics that are in really good condition to start with unless you just want to have them in a nice case. If you are going to pick, I would do the Conan and maybe the Dracula one because they appear to be in the best shape. The Spiderman one will not grade as high because the hole affects EVERY page as you said making the number of defects a lot higher than the others. If you're doing this just for you personally, pick your favorite one and try cgc out..if you're satisfied try out another. I would only cgc a comic if it was really old (golden age or silver), a key issue and I thought it would come back at LEAST an 8 out of ten...unless I really just wanted it protected and didn't mind the cost but thats just me. Good Luck.

I wouldn't get those graded bench!

My grades from the scans...

GL/GA #76 FA/G 1.5

Conan #1 F/VF 7.0

Spidey Ann #1 FA 1.0 with the insect damage

TOD #1 VF 8.0

Without that tear from the scan that TOD does look sweet and might otherwise be a nice book to send to CGC.

The cost of the grading would be too high in relation to the value of the comics IMO. But hey....if you are convinced you want to send in something I would pick the Conan & TOD #1's. Those would be the nicest ones from your list.

Thanks Disneyteddies, Toz and Oxbladder for your advice and opinions.
Habib, thanks for your grading. You helped me make my CGC decision.
I probably will not CGC. I like to read and handle my comics, at the same trime it may not be worth the cost of doing it.

Honestly, I am a collector on a budget. Most of the key comics in my collection are middle grades. Eventually I will be getting into some CGC comics, only if I have a reading copy of the comic.

which alot of people like to do with there comics is read them.
But on the other hand it's also nice to have the books in which you can flip at any time(conan#1) slabbed to ensure when the time does come you can move it fast.
this is just my opinion which doesn't happen to often but I to have hundreds of key issue slabbed comics with reader to go with them this is just how I collect my books and that's what I like to do is collect comics.

good luck with what you decide to do bench.
