Who is going to Motor City Con in a couple weeks!

I am!! :)

Come visit me at my booth (Mark Scott) if you are!

Guest list doesn't look as strong as in previous years but there will be a few autographs I will be seeking (as well as trying to earn a buck or two)

Linda!

I will try to remember to pick up an extra program for ya! No problem at all!

Heck if I can find my Pittsburgh comic con program from last month I'll send that one your way too!

CG,

One of the sad thing about conventions are all of the old "stars" that no one cares about anymore......they sit at their tables for long periods of time with no one talking to them.

However, one of the worst things I saw at a convention was James "Scotty" Doohan (at one of his last appearances) in his wheel chair trying to sign item after item. You couldn't really even read his signature but they kept sending person after person to him. Sad.......

Hey Guys!

Habib is going to be at the Motor City Con these next few days!

I will take my laptop so that if the hotel has internet I will try to post on the mystery cover and guess the grade games.

If not.....I will continue the games on Monday!

See you all soon!

Hi habib,

Think of me if you happen to find any Conan's in the "low-price" boxes!!

I know I'll must likely never be able to afford any of them above say issue 20 or so but I can always dream & hope, can't I? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v35/fulltimer56/smiley/angelic.gif

How was the convention? I heard there was a police raid, so that would seem to kill the fun.

I suppose it is very important to make sure no more copies of the Star Wars Holiday Special ever see the light of day.

Dude! It was crazy! I think around 17 bootleg DVD dealers got arrested early Fri!!!

There were 4 around me that got nailed. I felt bad for them but if you are selling something illegal that you know one day someone is going to rat you out for......then you got to live with the consequences.

Convention was great for me but I heard many of the dealers talking about how poorly they did (now, the bootleg dealers....they did REAL poor business.....)

Celebrity autograph rates are getting WAY out of hand. Just a signature from Adam West is now $40!! WTF!!! When I saw him around 15 years ago you could get his sig for free!

Had a great time overall!

Can't wait for the Heroes Con in Charlotte. It is a kick butt show with a fantastic guest list this year!

I've always wondered about this. I can see how bootleg video/DVD sellers could have a decent mail-order business but how is that they seem to be at every convention? And what does it take to get the cops in? Election year?

I actually don't have a particular problem with the bootleggers (especially the ones who are making available stuff that isn't otherwise).

But I've never understood how they're allowed to sell at shows and not have any problems. Then again, I don't understand how radar detectors are legal, so maybe it's just me..

June Cleaver, the character, IS credited with speaking the first obscene statement in primetime, regular-channel television history. Soupy Sales only did it in the afternoons while us kids were watching.

Rick, the cops are very careful to check whether or not the illegal stuff is being sold by dealers with a valid, current business license and that the state and feds are getting any appropriate taxation. Their bogus products are really only undocumented imports and it would be bigoted of you to say them nay!

A lot of people saw this coming after the all-time high amount of DVD bootleggers at the Fall Motor City show last year. About 40-50% of the dealers at the Fall show were DVD bootleggers. They flaunted it so shamelessly that you could almost feel it coming.

The official report claimed more than 30,000 suspected fraudulent items were obtained and 14 dealers were taken to the police station.

Hey, don't look at me...

I paid good money for my (authorized, wide-screen) copy of "Fire in the Sky"!

No, no, I'd never, uh, say them nay.

What if some young upstart showed up at a show selling boxes of bootleg Marvels and DCs?
