An eBay user alerted my attention to an error in one of my listings - X-) Manowar # 0 Gold Variant. Sure enough, after doing some research on Valiantcomics.com I realized they were right. But my dilemma is: what the heck is this then?

I have about 8 of the silver, and then this one, which is gold. Huh?

That is the short printed gold variant. It was common practice at the time for Valiant to do a regular and short print variant cover for their #0 and #1 issues. In some cases, there are also platinum, red, and blue variants.

The main difference in the variant here is that the silver (regular) cover had around 800,000 copies printed. The gold (variant) cover had around 5000 copies. It is by far much more rare, and considered one of the toughest X-O issues to find.

There are also people discovering that the colors are inconsistent on on the logo boxes. Some are bright white, others are clearly an ivory color. When stacked up , the ivory ones look different on the spine. The jury is out on whether 4 versions of this comic exist or whether there are just printing inconsistencies. There is a Gold & non-gold version, but is there an Ivory & White logo version of each also?
