View Full Version : Dead of Night featuring Man-Thing #1
I finally got around to reading this first issue. First thing, I really don't think that this qualified as a "MAX" title. It was relatively tame. After reading titles like Terror Inc, Punisher and Foolkiller you have come to expect a certain level of violence/gore. I didn't receive anything I could have found in a regular Marvel release. Maybe I am just getting spoiled on the MAX titles.
The story was interesting and good enough to bring me back for the next issue. The art was nice (especially the sequences with the narrator, Digger). I also really enjoyed the retro cover.
The only other Man Thing comic I have read was the feature in one of the Legion of Monsters one shots from last year. I'm guessing this is some sort of update for his origin? I know I have some of the older Man Thing comics in my selling boxes. Are those a recommended read?
Anyway, the only real detraction for me was that the issue was not MAX enough for me, but I can let it go as long as the storyline remains interesting.

Thanks I will have to take a closer look at the book. I held off on buying this because it looked like they were trying to do the old corny EC way of doing things with the Cryptkeeper and such. Just wanted a straight Man-Thing tale not some corned down short story monster tripe

Corny horror hosts? I love 'em! Cain, Abel, Destiny, The Old Witch, Crypt Keeper, etc... they were the staple of my horror filled nights of good 'ol comics reading. Obviously, you guys can tell I won't be adding much perspective on superhero books, because I never really got into them--outside of the 80s New Teen Titans, the occassional Bat-man/Superman title, etc.

I'm relatively new to the MAX books (in fact, I've been religiously avoiding Moderns until being hooked into Walking Dead), and Dead of Night was one I picked up just because I loved the Marvel reprint series from the 1970s. It was definitely dark, and the material mature. I liked it, but why are they fixating on Man-Thing?

Did they do a remake of Terror Inc.?
Andy
Yes, MAX had a really good Terror Inc mini that ended last month I think.
I haven't read the final issue, but it is very good so far!
