I don't own any one of the CGC slabs. I might be able to my hands on one one day. The SS slabs looks promising. How about you guys?

This is it, my one and only. I wouldn't have this one if I had noticed the notation in the Heritage auction.

If memory serves me correctly, I have:

Shadowman (Vol 3) #6 in 9.2 and 9.8
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c379/Quato2/Valiant/CGC_V3_006_Shadowman.jpg

Armorines (Vol 2) #4 2 x 9.4 and 4 x 9.6

and

Hansi, Girl who loved the Swastika in 8.0 which is BS. I've seen 9.4's that look worse than my Hansi comic. It was bought new off the rack by me in a Christian book store in the 70's.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c379/Quato2/mb/001_39cent_Hansi_the_Girl_Who_Loved.jpg

I had these all graded as a test. I'm tempted to crack the case and just throw it away.

From the scan that Hansi looks really sweet.....I would have called CGC and asked for the graders notes to see why it was down graded to a VF.

And some very nice rare Akklaim/Valiants.....you should make some good money when you sell those......especially a Shadowman v3 in 9.8. Very low print run and very high grade....:HAIL:

WHAT? Come on, you can't just post something like this without some explanation!

First of all, what IS that, secondly, what kind of a "Christian Book Store" would sell it and lastly, why on Earth would you buy it? lol

Nice books people, the only one I have so far is:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v633/Hank27/scan-3.jpg

But I really like them, the case seems very sturdy and if it's a book I've either read before or don't need to (which is only the case if it's in danger of disintegrating in your hands because it's so old) I really like them.

Regarding Hansi, this is Christian comic with an unusual theme. They had a whole line of comics that were only distributed through Christian book stores. Some other book stores might have had access but most of them were found only in Christian book stores. If you notice the Al Hartley credits on the cover, that's pretty much an indication that it's family oriented. Al has passed away, but his son is pastor of a church about a couple of miles away as the crow flies.

This was published by Spire Christian Comics. Price variants exist. There is a 39 cent & 49 cent version of this 1976 printing. Later the the same line of comics were printed under the Barbour Christian Comics Imprint

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c379/Quato2/Indy/Other/nn_Theres_A_New_World_Coming_535.jpg

More info can be read here:
http://www.christiancomicsinternational.org/series_spire.html

Al Hartley's ties to Archie meant that several of the Spire titles feature Archie in Christian stories.

My copy of Hansi does have a spine ding, it's just not severe enough to call an 8.0 in my opinion (and the opinion of the store owner that submitted it.) I had to photoshop the scan to merge the top and bottom. Some warping may exist because my new scanner doesn't scan slabs as well as my old one. Time to break down and buy an A3 scanner.

I was a big Jim Shooter fan, so I bought extra on all the relaunch issues when they came out. I had 30 or more Unity 2K #3's at one point. I've made my money back on them many times over. The reason I don't have the 9.8 scanned is because I'm selling it AFTER my 9.2 sells. I've got the 9.2 priced high and the 9.8 will be higher. I'm stretching the ceiling on these because I know these books are near impossible to find in NM. Back when Shadowman #3 & 4 came out a Starlin fan found out late and he bought 5 copies each of them from me. Out of about 30 comics ALL had minor spine dings on the cover whether it be front or back. They came out of the case that way. To appease my customer I looked all over Atlanta to find a copy without a spine ding. there were none. I ended up giving him a credit out of kindness despite the fact I never guaranteed NM. To this day I will not nitpick a modern comic. I sell as VF or better then charge a NM price if I grade it as NM. I'm not into the high grade worship. I like solid copies that I don't have to handle with gloves.

The first comic catalog I owned offered books in three grades...

1) With Cover
2) Partial Cover
3) No cover

Does PGX count? I do not have any CGC but I have a PGX graded 8.0 Marvel Two-In-One Annual #2.

From a guy who is into Starlin stuff, this one is a no brainer.

I really bought this because I love the comic, it was cheap and I wanted to own a professionally graded comic. I would buy another if it was the right comic at the right price.

Well, I've got 27 slabbed comics ranging from 2.0 to 9.8. I never really intended to own so many, but all but one of them, I got for very little, and they are kind of neat. I haven't felt the need to add to my collection and have been toying with the idea of selling them.

Superman (V1) #199 PGX 2.0 http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e333/jdb114/slabs/slab001.jpg

Quato, are you Howard Rogofsky? I don't think I ever ordered your catalogs but I remember seeing your ads all the time back in the early 1970's. :)

I don't know why but I love this cover.
And I have to say that I'm a freak for CGC & PGX graded books as I own almost 155 books with very little (2 or 3) under 8.0

this is a 9.0 cgc and the scan suks but you can still see the cover.

I guess I'm an old school collector. I have thousands of comics without any any of them in slabs. I never felt the need to have any of my comics graded by a third party. I don't need someone else to tell me how good or bad my comics are. Eventually, when I start selling my more expensive ones I will have some slabbed simply because I can probably get more for them.

I did exactly that. When I first heard of the comic (1978 or 1979) I ran around to all the Christian bookstores in the area and managed to get 40 copies. Because most of them were in a spinner rack, most of the ones I found were bent. I've sold most of them since and still have ten. #banana1# Don't be fooled by the title, it's really quite tame.

Here's a scan.

No, I'm not Howard. I ordered that as a kid when I found out the stories all had a history.

Applaud. I only did it to 1) see how they graded some tough to find books 2) sell those books for top dollar.

Hansi was never one I planned to sell though.

I have only slabbed 2 books, one thru PGX and the other thru CGC. I sold both of them off and haven't submitted anymore.

I did buy two low graded slabbed Amazing Spidey's. They were so cheap and I ended up opening the slabs anyway.

The title has been updated. Slabbed books counts here anyway. :)

I have a bunch of PGX slabs. A lot of you here may not know I ran his website for a while. I was getting all my stuff slabbed for free in exchange for my time working on his site. We had a falling out though, and I haven't slabbed anything anywhere since. That being said, I can show you a few more... :D

This one I had, but sold it...

Hey DT, nice to hear from you...how about them HABS?
HHMMM...I must have forgot to add a pic.
And no, they aren't really for sale.
I do list them as a huge lot on 10-cent listing days but my starting bid is high. If they sell, I'm happy. If they don't sell I'm still happy.
I'm sending in a Monterey Pedigree copy of BATMAN 278 for CGC grading, I believe it'll come back 9.8, maybe better.

I sent it in to CGC myself and it came back a 4.5.

I have lots of CGC books, but only 4 PGX books (CGG, PGA, et-all).

PGX: ASM #198, 9.6 -- Web of SM #50 9.8 -- GL: Rebirth #1 <autographed> 9.8 and one other, a low-grade Copper book that's too embarassing to repeat here.

I'm thinking about removing the tear seal on this book because I think it would keep the grade or maybe drop to 6.5. Tied for top census at 7.0 even if it is purple labeled

Nice collections folks. I'll post some of my slabs soon. It really seems like you can find high grade slabbed books for just about what it costs to slab them, on eBay all the time. As long as your not picky about the issues. I'd rather have a lower grade key, than an ultra high grade slabbed book, but that's just me.

Thanks Linda, that's exactly what I had done. They are now with their proper labels.

I did have some advice to sell the 4.0 (read 1.5) on eBay and crack and re-sub the 1.5 (4.0), but that's not how I roll. That certainly would have got me a decent buck for a very low grade copy of that book, but the buyer certainly wouldn't be happy and PGX's reputation would slip even lower.

Actually, I bought the Submariner 1 in 1977 for $500, I got the Torch 1 in '88 for $7500 in trade (a really nice Spidey #1 was included, so in the long run I took a beating...but I wouldn't trade it back!). I got the Cap 1 in trade from Dan Greenhaugh at San Diego in '96 or '97. And I did pay a chunk for the Marvel 1 last year, but man is it cool!

Mr. Bedrock:

Stunning books!

That Red Raven #1 is truly remarkable. I have never seen this cover looking that incredibly sharp, and I have to say, the dang thing is downright Cahrltonesque! What a gem. This must have been practically a teenage Kirby at work, right? Just look at the composition. And the content. The face-grab is hysterical. And look at the composition of the flying dude's free hand. Remarkable. Look at the sword about to cut the rope. Look at the color juxtaposition. Everything about the layout and composition of that cover is pure genius. What a gem.

Thanks for sharing!

Y'all have really nice BATMAN collections. I've been sort of shopping around for BATMAN comics and picking up a few cuz I see yours.

Just some of my slabbed books, I have more, but I figure I'll spread it out. A lot seem rather unspectacular, but I needed them to fill a hole and got them cheap, or I was just able to pick them up for cheap. I kinda will buy most high grade slabbed books if they are under $20 including shipping and a title I like or a semi-key.
