View Full Version : Hey Architecht! Don't Ban Poor Old C.G.!

The Charlton Guy

Amazingly, The Charlton Guy been banned from the CGC Discussion Forum.

Architecht? I do hope you'll take a minute to read this:

I'll keep it short and sweet:

I have never pushed an Anti-CGC Agenda on your discussion boards. All I ever did was to point out glaring inadequacies when I saw them and outright mistakes when they were staring me in the face. And that was just once or twice. And purely negative takes I have on CGC I discuss elsewhere. Like here. Whatever my input on the CGC Boards, I always take into consideration that you are the host and post accordingly.

And yes I do consider myself a constructive contributer to the CGC Forum. For the betterment of the hobby.

See, my only "agenda", if I could be said to have one, is to shine a spotlight on the rampant scams that are increasingly plagueing the hobby. I have done so multiple times in the CGC Forum, the latest being Bluechip's Action #1 fiasco of the last few days. If you are going to ban anybody, it should be him, don't you think?

It didn't take me long to realize that the reason I was banned is because of the statements I made in The Corral's "TEC27 Thread" which was in my signature link. Well, I won't take those statements back, because I believe them (or I wouldn't have said them), but if this is the primary reason I was banned, rather than anything that was said on the CGC Boards, then I hardly find that fair. That said, I would be happy to change the signature link, or you could delete it if you wish. Again, I would never make such statements as a guest in the CGC Forum, and the fact that the link remained in my signature was an oversight on my part.

I hope that you will reconsider reinstating me as a Forum Member.

Or at least make this a strike and not a suspension.

At the very least, I hope you will think about it.

And feel free to email me at thecharltonguy@yahoo.com if you like.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

The Charlton Guy

I am sure they would take you back if you could permanently silence me. Who graded and passed the Danny books STEVE? Were there 3 graders or just you? How much did Geppi/Anderson kick you back to blue label them? When the truth comes out are you going to claim incompetence? Will that reflect better on CGC than your utter hypocrisy and corruption? Does this mean my account is closed?

No one is sure just why you got the boot at this time, but do suspect that some things you've sadi here, have been seen by the CGC moderators and they chose to take action.

no one believes you did anything in the Action 1 thread to get banned.

and it doesn't sound like Arch will be changing his mind anytime soon. we will miss your insight...................:D

Thanks Burntboy.

Yeah, I expect it was that post on the TEC27 thread in my signature link.

One post.

And the whole thing is highly ironic, because I use CGC Grading services on a regular basis. Very regular.

But whatever, if they don't want a potential squeaky wheel around, I understand.

Tell the Gang at CGC not to upset the "Apple Cart"!

But hell, if they do?

There's always The Corral.

Alright, I had a chance to check out the "C.G.'s Banned" thread over at the CGC Boards and I have a few observations, particularly for Architecht:

The "friend coming over for a few beers" theory doesn't hold water.

Like I said, I regularly use CGC grading services.

I submit books on a regular basis, and I buy CGC slabs on a regular basis on Feebay and elsewhere.

I do appreciate what you guys do.

But I question it too. A lot.

If that offends you, and you don't want me around anymore, so be it.

But you really should reconsider.

You are seriously shooting yourself in the foot here.

If you want me to apologize for what I said here? Want me to take back or even delete the "outright fraud" reference? I will.

That's how far I'll go.

But I won't go so far as to change my beliefs and my knowledge of past CGC activities just because you disagree with them.

So I will be happy to return if you will reconsider.

Otherwise?

I hope I'll see all my CGC Buds here at The Corral.

Sincerely,

C.G.

O.K Architecht,

I did it.

I went against everything that this Forum stands for and deleted the "anti-CGC" comments that offended you.

And I challenge you to find another purely anti-CGC statement that I have made either here or elsewhere.

I have brought things into question, I have joked, I have made observations, but I have never outright slammed CGC except for that one post.

And now it's gone.

Again, I hope you will consider my reinstatement in the CGC Forum.

Best regards,

C.G.

Right you are Hoss.

And it's a sad state of affairs when a dissenting opinion, is cause for banning in a Forum that counts the banned person as one of their regular customers.

A very sad state of affairs.

Whether you're successful getting back in or not I've decided to ban myself from the CGC boards due to nonsense like this.

Some arogant scam artist spews word-spin-bs garbage for days... and they ban you over a sig link??

Anyway, many of the probing and questioning-style voices have slowly drifted away or been banned from CGC anyway. And what's the point in joining in one-way conversations? One-way conversations I can just listen to (or read).

Good luck to you.

(I really hope this doesn't come across as one of those FDQ exits. Just thought I'd let you know your ban was the final nonsense-straw.)

You have always been one of my favorite posters there (or anywhere), so the fact that you chose to leave now pretty much cements for me the sad state of affairs that is the CGC Forum.

#hello# Hey there C.G., it was good to see you in The Queen City... but didn't expect the news today. #curtain#

Well, no one can say that you're not a man without a true passion for the hobby! Honeslty, most of this whole tale is waaay too high level for a bargain-bin-diver like myself, but it certainly appears that you're making a concerted effort to make a mends for whatever was said, or otherwise.

Further, I think that it's when all of those educated hobbists and experienced buyer/sellers (ie: like yourself, amongst others) come together, with their varied opinions, that makes forums like the Corral and 'others' so worthwhile! #professor#

I don't know why you would want to be reinstated.

At this particular moment, I'm not sure either.

Perhaps its because I feel that pointing out scams in the comic book collecting market benefits all in the comic book collecting market.

And CGC is a good venue to do so.

So is this joint.

Wow, thats a pretty lame reason to ban someone.

The Charlton Guy
04-08-2008, 03:22 AM
I just read Architecht's reason for banning me, and from his point of view (and CGC's), he is right.

My sig-link went to Eide's posts on the TEC27 thread on which was my one offensive post in which I was accusing CGC of fraud encompassing mainly preferential treatment for big-boys, and overlooking established restoration criteria and my promising to bring the same to light both here and at CGC. It was a post made more in anger at Mr. Eide than in anger at CGC. I suppose not many people will understand that. I certainly don't expect Arch to understand it.

I have admitted that the post and link were offensive and deleted the offensive post and asked Arch to delete my sig-link.

Apparently, sig-links to other websites is not allowed. Certainly not to websites that "bash" CGC. I completely understand that. But I didn't know that, and wasn't warned.

So I still think a suspension would have been more in line than a ban, particulary since Arch didn't take the time to find out that I am (was) a regular CGC customer.

I admit that I intentionally set up said sig-link to go to Edie's posts (preceding mine). That I didn't change the sig-link destination after my "offensive" post was just an oversite. And I certainly would have removed it had I remembered that it went to that particular page.

But what's done is done. Their rules, I broke 'em.

Bottom line?

I can live without that joint. And they can probably live without me and my big mouth (and my previously-regular CGC submittals).

So I'll leave it at that.

They're done with me, I'm done with them.

I just want to give my sincere thanks for all of you CGC Forum Members who supported me tonight. I look forward to continuing to chat with you all either here at The Corral, at STL or at the NOD.

And thanks to all of my fellow Corral Members (especially JDB, Hoss & SP) for your support as well. You guys are great and I often don't know why the hell you put up with me.

That's all for now. I'm tired and I have to go to bed.

Best regards,

Poe

I guess I will make the following comment about this situation.

People need to remember that CGC isn't interested in what is good for the comic collecting community. The only question is what is good for them and their bottom line and sometimes that flies in direct opposition to what might be in the best interest of the people participating in this hobby.

There are known scammers who have committed criminal acts by taking money from trusting buyers fully knowing they are selling goods that are both purposely misrepresented and which are shill bid up at variety of different auction format sites.

And these fraudsters/shillers are not banned from the CGC boards. Why? Because they don't impact CGC negatively and, in fact, boost the value of their brand by inflating the selling prices for these encapsulated comics.

Terrible for the hobby but great for CGC.

And that, my friends, is the bottom line.

The Charlton Guy

Welcome to The Corral Poe.

I'm too tired to a agree with you this morning, no coffee yet, but what you have to say about Bluechip (and others) rings very true.

CGC Forum criteria for Membership:

Squeaky wheels: Bad. Ban 'em.

Shills and practitioners of undisclosed restoration: Just fine and dandy.

Those who press 'em, clean 'em, otherwise monkey with 'em and submit 'em for Blue Label Status: Good customers! We love you guys! (Especially you, Matt!)

Mindless sheep who believe everything we say: Perfect.

Sorry, but I'm grumpy before my morning java.

Again, welcome and make yourself at home.

And have fun.

I should still like for someone to ask this Architecht fellow exactly why I was banned, since as a banned member, I cannot ask him myself. It's not that I'm all that interested in posting there, I'm just curious as to what his rationale for doing so was.

Here's the message I posted there, I admit it's a bit curt, but hardly ban-worthy.

Originally Posted by jaydeebee on the CGC Forum:

I think most persons will agree that the CGC forum has the right to limit the discussions within their own forums. But they have no jurisdiction outside of these forums as to what can and cannot be said about them or their organization. It's called Freedom of Expression, yeah that's a cliche', but it also happens to be true.

Speaking as a moderator of the Comics Corral let me assure anyone who might think otherwise, that the content of the Comics Corral will not be dictated by anyone other than the Administrator(s) and the Moderators of the Comics Corral. Least there be any confusion.

Long live The Charlton Guy, the only Chalton Guy who matters!

(by the way, you're all invited to stop by and say Howdy!)

Now somewhere over on the there site, I read that 3 violations in a year warrant a suspension, 4 warrant banning. Since this was my only post ever on the CGC Board, it seems to me that someone over-reacted. Since a banned member cannot even contact the moderator for an appeal, I guess I'm sunk. Oh well...

I guess that's what I get for dabbling in unfamiliar territory!

Yep, they are VERY sensitive over there at CGC.

In fact, a few months ago, on one of my recent raw BATMAN runs of eBay auctions, one potential buyer, who bellowed on about how he claimed he was a CGC pre-grader, sent me a long rant about how he doesn't agree with my Terms and Conditions in my auctions.
This guy sounds like he loves to stand on his soap-box and pound his chest.
He was probably one of those fat little kids that got beat up on the school bus every day.
Anyway, he's got a FB rating of 85 at 96.7%.

Hoss
04-08-2008, 02:28 PM
That's kind of a dramatic comparison Eide.

It's easy to be say "free speech for everyone" until it's you in the hot seat. As a forum owner, I can tell you that it is a lot harder than it seems to be tolerant of some of the things people say or do. While the Corral has always been a place where people are free to speak their minds, I can assure you that there have been times where I have nearly split my head in two trying see a line to be crossed that may or may not even exist. I respect Architecht's decision because I know how hard these choices can be. Especially once you make the choice then people start crapping on you for doing what you did. Now do you hold firm to your decision, or do you reverse yourself? Now the other side is mad at you!

I have broken the Corral's #1 rule on occasion and banned people who I thought were disruptive to the Corral and it's day to day operations. Sure I promised them that they could say what they wanted...but the moment I felt they were doing more harm than good, of course I banned them. I think that any moderator/admin would do the same.

That being said, CG is a great member who is working hard and devoting great amounts of time and effort in order to get to the truth. I think that the CGC forums will be poorer without The Charlton Guy and I hope that perhaps one day they will let him return. In the meanwhile, I am honored that Charlton Guy is a member here and he will always have a voice at the Comics Corral.

Keep up the great work CG!

Anyone who knows Hoss, JBD or CG even a little bit knows that they are hard working, fun and very responsible group members. Their knowledge contributes a heck of a lot to these forums where you're supposed to be talking about comic books. I noticed a lot of the forums are been run by not so polite people on a power trip lately...I have had to step back more than once or I would be getting banned every week. I don't even bother with some of them, I just lurk for free information. I don't have time to argue with some forty year old sitting in his mother's basement eating cheesy poof's about whether a comic book is a 9.4 or 9.6. I especially don't put up with insults or degradation of which I have run into lately. The rules of posting are becoming more like eBay's daily change of fee's...I think it's time for a few changes...I don't stand for rude people in real life, I'm not going to put up with them in a forum. Take care CG and JBD, sounds pretty unfair but you'll always have a home here where speaking your piece doesn't result in a permanent time out! Some people really need to grow up!

Thanx again for making this place Hoss!

Well, as far as I can tell, my 30-day suspension on the CGC Boards got upgraded just as it expired and is now a permanent ban, (as usual the moderators seem to have a problem with the concept of clear communication) so...I'm planting my flag a few blocks over. It's gotten more than a little old over there, (despite the fact that there are still a lot of good folks posting) so it's nice to have a fresh start.

Should be fun!

Thanks for the warm welcome CG! And Hoss! And others....

The only thing I seem to have lost in the last 48 hours is the feeling that someone was looking over my shoulder...

Having left a board voluntarily after being threatened of banishment... I agree entirely. I don't surround myself with "yes men" and I'm happy to depart from people when that's what they expect of me. The funny thing is that people still want me to propagate their message even after I've gone my own way. I can't drill it into their heads that my opinion was set and it takes a logical set of facts to persuade my opinion otherwise. Tapping the magic slippers and hoping peer pressure will change my mind doesn't work. It never has and it never will.

Welcome FlyingDonut!

As for me, I found that after you've been here for a while, it gets easier to navigate the threads. There may be a setting in your "CPU" that allows you to set either "latest posts first" or "first posts latest" or some weird combination of the two.

And don't be hesitant to start a few threads of your own. That's what this joint is here for.

And also, one way or another, don't be hesitant to ask Hoss or one of the Mods if you need to know anything.

But don't ask me. I know how to type, but I don't know a damn thing about computer gizmos or configurations. #creep#

Hi all, and thanks for all the kind words. Been reading my obituary thread over on CGC and I am left scratching my head over the willful misrepresentation of events. I never used the PM system of the CGC board and this was so clearly an isolated incident of my trying to give a taste of his own medicine to a proven Ebay shiller, scam artist, liar and overall nutjob who had attached himself to me for three months, that anyone who looks at the bigger picture and sees anything else, obviously had some personal ax to grind with me from the start.

The mods failed to do their job from the get go with GC. He personally targeted me and my research and after three months of getting it rubbed in my face, I'd had enough. It should never have gotten that far, if the moderators were doing their job.

The red herring that is a pulled ebay auction that was up for all of 180 seconds should actually prove that this was a targeted action. This was a private matter. No book was harmed, or changed. If someone can't appreciate the irony of foisting a mis-labeled book on a crook who had no shame about foisting a mis-labeled book....on the general buying public on ebay...then they'll simply never get it. Which is fine with me.

I had a right to be protected from being targeted by this headcase on the boards. The mods failed to do that. In my eyes, a crook who is actively shilling his Ebay auctions has given up his rights to be treated fairly. If I regret anything, it was involving anyone else, even remotely. I've spoken privately with all parties involved and amends have been made.

I'd be happy to discuss this with guys like Shin Kao, who obviously has harbored some long standing animosity towards me....what other explanation for the fact that he has allied himself and aided a known crook. I can only wonder from what this over-reaction and willful distortion of the facts stems. Not a word of protest, no calls for GC's head when it was clearly proven he was shilling his Ebay auctions, and using multiple accounts on the CGC Boards.

Another point...for anyone to suggest that anything illegal was being done...is the absolute height of hysterical absurdity.

I would also issue this warning to anyone buying raw books in the CGC forum marketplace. Ask before you buy, if a book was pressed. There is a huge cottage industry going on there at this time, with books coming out of the Chicago area and Vancouver, pressed to the max. May not make a difference to you..... but if it does....just ask before you buy.

M.C. & Red (and all),

Please feel free to use any and all resources available here at The Corral in order to conduct and present your research.

We would be honored to have you start a thread or two (or a dozen) dedicated to whatever realm you see fit.

And the PM and email links here make it possible to do so privately if you wish.

I have worked toward, and foresee the day (and maybe that day is here), when this Forum, and particularly this Area of The Corral, can become an important venue for the discussion of restoration and disclosure, without ANY outside influence or corporate interests involved. We may look like a bunch of folks just shootin' the breeze here now, but actually, some very significant strides have been made here as well, and I think we can really step it up several notches now that you guys are on Board.

I very much look forward to it and encourage you all to go for it.

I was also disappointed that I couldn't meet Brad and shake his hand at the show (for the second time). I know Andy (GACollectibles) and have met DickPontoon there, but I know you think I'm a dick, Nik, so I didn't say hi :-) I'll also avoid you here, if that's how you'd like it.

Carmine was only signing two books per person, so I had my wife stand in line. He and Steranko seemed to like signing books for a blonde lady better than for me :-)

LOL! I saw them in 1982 also @ the Oakland Coliseum Arena (Allied Forces tour). They played with Blackfoot and 38 Special. Great show!

Foghat was the opening act when I saw them at the Glens Fall Civic Center. I kept all my old concert tickets in a photo album. I'm glad I did.

Thanks Andy! I'm going to start up a new pedigree thread here shortly. Just been busy with work and grad school and marathon training. There is definitely life beyond the CGC boards. They don't even resemble what they were three years ago anyway.

Red

Brad; I may be wrong here, but i think Scott (FFB) has come out of hibernation. Maybe there just wasn't room enough for the two of you on the CGC Boards..........:D

Now don't be starting trouble Harry. I went out of my way never to needle him while he was in absentia. ;)

So it has now been established that people will be banned from the CGC forums for things they have done outside those forums. That's great. Watch your backs, everybody.

Although I have to agree that CG's choice of page on the Tec27 thread to link to was questionable, the banning is ridiculous. Similarly, Red Hook may have deserved a strike, but to ban him - especially "quietly" - was just stupid.

Hope I don't get banned for this post.

Thanks Lazyboy.

I have no comment on the situation at this time (imagine that...), but I can say that having all of you come on Board here this week has been really, really great and something that all of us here at The Corral, and I appreciate greatly.

Welcome to The Corral, make yourself at home, make the place your own, have fun, and thanks again for your support.

Ah jeez, there's too many to remember, lol, I'd have to check the Banned thread.

And the (unexpected) answer to your second question is ---- Cavalera Conspiracy! Got it yet? Just came out 2 weeks ago.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavalera_Conspiracy

Igor and Max are back together after what - 12 years? It's like a Soulfly/Sepultura hybrid! Fackin' awesome!

Check out the first ticket stub. "Can you take it, can you take it!, I won't take it" (Attitutde) - No, I couldn't take it, my ass was kicked in the pit, 3 of these bands is too much for a General Admission concert...

But don't worry. These days? I'm used to dealing with vageries.

Dad&Son

you need to step back then... I did... no longer buy comics due to the "industry" created by the deep pockets that wish to lay in bed together.
but don't get me wrong... I'm not here to stir the pot too much. I think it's exciting that guys like you and Brad are Mods around here. It actually gives me hope that people in the hobby want the truth and do not go about "blindly"
I would like to say that one thing I felt bad in my rant prior to my banishment is that Nik was upset about the "list" of names for a few "top 20" posters that I mentioned folks should be leary of....
I wasn't implying him and was only trying to type as quickly as I could before anything in that thread disappeared. I wasn't including him at all in that list of people.
Another good guy to buy from and is top shelf was Flaming Telepath... I bought a few books as "the_Spirit" in my short time as a schill there because his service was fantastic and his books were ... well... clean... it's easy to see when you "work" on so many...
I told Brad about the details to look for in a pressed book compared to an "untouched" book...

The Charlton Guy
04-13-2008, 12:37 AM
You get me wrong.

You're welcome here, as I said.

Hell, all Misfit Comic Book Conspirasists are wecome here, didn't you know that?

Make yourself at home and chat at will.

There's just one little thing I need to know before you do:

Is it safe?

Dad&Son
04-13-2008, 12:42 AM
:p I was about to ask you the samething... and I'd prefer to have Mrs. Robinson's daughter starring at me instead of Laurence Olivier about to Nazi root canel me ( been there already in this hobby we call "fun" )

The Charlton Guy
04-13-2008, 12:45 AM
Me too...

Sorry, I can't do anything about Katherine Ross right now, but I'll work on it...

Have fun!
