Well, to christen the Corral, I'm gonna post up a piece that was acquired but as-yet shared with anybody. A classic Kirby/Sinnott piece from FF 65. Enjoy!

Thanks Red!

FF 65 is one of those stories I recall from childhood with great affection. I'd long wanted a page from that issue, and when I had the opportunity I couldn't pass it up.

What I love about it (next to the lovely Kirby/Sinnott art of course) is the complete non sequitur plot device of "Ben, use Strategem 32!". It's truly a deux et machina of sorts. Do you ever recall Ben and Reed practicing "strategems" mentioned in an FF story? Yet here it is, and of course Ben knows exactly which one to use! This is so KIRBY!!! #cloud9#

Of course, when I was a kid I never questioned it! Of course the FF probably practiced "Strategems" all the time in their down time! #rofl#

That's a fact!

When Spidey pushes that machine off of himself in #33.....I still get chills of the raw determination and power that sequence represents.....

I bought this from a friend across the street from the Corral. The art's from him, so I thought I may as well quote his words as well:

"a classic page from Jack Kirby's incredible run on Our Fighting Forces. This is one of the most action-packed pages you'll find in the DC war pantheon. Gritty, and told with the kind of bold visuals Kirby is famous for. It's a prime example of Kirby on this title. Inking credit goes to Bruce Berry, but this is all Kirby."

Very nice, OldGuy!

I like the Templesmith one better, art-wise.

I've got a question, though. How do folks take decent pictures of their art? Do they use very large scanners, or what's the deal?

Thanks for posting those!

Couple of my pages I have just used my digital camera. I have a stand now that should allow me to take even better images of larger object like OA. So likely I will improve many of the pages I have displayed on my web site ... someday.

Hi Andy,

Some of my art pics I got from the seller, and I have no idea how they were done, probably a large scanner. Others are pictures I've taken with my digital camera. My scanner isn't big enough for most of the pages I have. My office has a scanner that is big enough for OA, but I've never found the motivation to bring my art into the office to scan it, so pictures will have to do in some cases.

Regards,
Brian

Hi Andy, like Brian, I keep scans from the seller for record-keeping purposes but I take pictures of the art with my camera once I get it. I don't have a large format scanner or have access to one. Some of the pics in my CAF gallery are a little dark, but for the most part the digital camera works well.

Although I do own some pen and ink stuff, I prefer some of the color painted stuff Janet Jackson did over 1st generation photocopies of the original Valiant & Defiant art. These are what the actual covers and or pages are made from..

Here, Model Sandra Taylor is signing the watercolor layout sketch I bought from Olivia. The watercolor sketch is a LOT cheaper than paying $7,000 for a full painting. The final painting was used on the Dragon Con Program Book (also shown on the table). Rough as this may be, I am proud to have an original Olivia piece signed by her and the unbelievably beautiful model. Yes, it is personalized to me... I don't intend on selling it.

Here is a beautiful sketch done by Rich Larson. It's stage two of the collaboration process which is done to produce a Fastner & Larson painting. Stage one is a penciled sketch. Stage two is a redrawn pencil sketch with blue pencils to fine tune the shading for painter Steve Fastner. Stage 3 would be the final painting. The final painting was a commissioned piece. I believe a collector in Tennessee own the painting.

Here are my three most recent acquisitions. I've only got one published piece of OA (Hobgoblin Live Mini Series--it's in my CAF), but it's just flat out expensive buying art with Spidey, in costume, in a fight, by a good artist. So... buying these commission pieces seems to fit my budget nicely as I was able to get all three for $200 shipped. And I like 'em!

I got this today. It is an unpublished DEFIANT comics "advertorial" drawn by Georges Jeanty in 1994. To the best of my knowledge, this depicts Jim Shooter, Janet Jackson & J. Clark Smith as well as another female which doesn't look familiar to me. Georges says that only three such advertorials were ever drawn and none were published.
