View Full Version : The "WORLD'S GREATEST" Collecting Thread!

Hello All!
Most of you who know me from the CGC Boards know I collect only one title - Fantastic Four
IMO it is one of the few Marvel titles RELATIVELY untainted by the fugged up storylines that have plagued the Marvel Modern era since the 80's...
This is a SA only thread. I will start a BA thread eventually! Post your books with pride!
A few Sid's Luncheonette copies

Thomas, great books.
I would buy "6.0"s like the FF4 all day long.
It looks so much better. I think I can see a popped lower staple, but other than that what kept it from grading higher? Back cover issues?
djpinkpanther67
12-08-2008, 06:44 PM
I'm pretty sure the tanning affected the grade. CGC is coming down hard on tanning and stape rust a lot more than they used to...Lower stape isn't popped as far I know, as that would have resulted in a GLOD, wouldn't it?
djpinkpanther67

Fantastic Four comics are so cool. They're probably my favorites followed by Spidey and Batman books.

WOW...Thomas, I didn't know you'd picked up an FF 21....that copy has to have the best centering I've ever seen on a 21....it's notoriously difficult to find a copy with a full logo and a full CCA stamp....good job.GOD BLESS...

I've been wanting a copy of this book since the dawn of time...finally got one ! It's awesome being able to see the Thing busting up out of the sewer, the Mole washing up on the shore of Monster Isle, and the Valley of Diamonds in all of it's original lustre....YES, I broke it out of the slab. GOD BLESS...

Nothing quite like the acquisition of a grail.
Now, I have to ask (as have so many others), having busted out that bad boy was there anything internal that was a drag on the grade?
I just cannot see (from the cover scan) that that is a 1.8.
I know, it is impossible to grade from a scan #blahblah# but you know what I mean. Just looks a lot better.
Now, is there anything better than reading the origin of the "Marvel Age of Comics" in the original? I think not. I would argue without this book there would be no "super hero movie " industry today.
Debate

I almost didn't take it out of the slab for fear of what I might find...but the inside is clean, no mustaches drawn on Sue or coupons filled out. I was pleasantly surprised at how glossy it still was in hand. It does have a lot of wrinkling and crumpling but is very solid. I would call it a 2.5....but then I probably paid that much for it....slightly less than OSPG Good. I might someday try and trade it towards a 3.0 with a white cover....but I'm in no hurry. Mine is a little yellowed....someone obviously loved the heck out of it...luckily their Mom didn't get a hold of it ( lol ). If any of you are contemplating picking one up...go for it. I had to save up for months and also sold a couple of my better books....no regrets. GOD BLESS...
