View Full Version : The Winnipeg Pedigree

Here are a couple of samples of books from the Winnipeg Pedigree.....the earlier silver age books often sport the signature of one of the co-collectors...Dennis Kjolso. This pedigree stretches well into the Bronze Age and is probably one of the pedigrees spanning the longest stretch of years.
Some collectors are put off by the signature...it definitely is a potential distraction on a light colored cover.
I owned both of these books at one time...

I dont mind the Sig at all. Sure it detracts from the artwork of the book but for me its a story in itself.

I agree. I still have a book or two from the collection, and the sig doesn't bother me either. :p

But Russ; Red, you and I are cut from a different cloth and without the signatures they are just ordinary books to us. I so prefer pedigrees with distinguishing yet consistent markings. Reds GR's, my WM's, Winnipegs, Ohios with the grease pencil, Mile Highs with the "code", Larsons with the "L"'s...thats what gives the book it's character and back story. A Pacific Coast in a slab, is the same as any ultra high grade book.

Wow that #4 got an 8.5 even with all that chipping on the top edge?
Did Joe Krolik hold this collection before it was brought public?
BTW I don't believe that it was Church that put those codes on the books it was a distributor marking from my understanding. With respect to the writing on these books I just wish it was considered in the grading which I really don't think it is. Like the "Pay Copy" Marvel Comics #1 writing is writing whether historical or not doesn't change the fact that it is a defect. That's just my opinion though and I know many don't share it.

My Winnipeg Avengers # 5 doesn't have the sig. Does anyone know how many of the Winnipegs don't have it? #dunno#

Are you positive? I remember looking at a scan of it. Of course I could be mistaken, but sometimes the signature isn't that visible against a dark cover, which the top of that issue is. (Lava Men).

Yeah, the lack of sig was even briefly discussed on the CGC boards before I bought it a year or so back. I'll try to get round to posting a scan of it soon. I assume that there aren't many without sigs?

The signature was very prevalent among early silver age books....so a lack of sig at that time would have been the exception.

I just snagged two Battlestar Galactica issues (yeah I wanted em!) from the Winnipeg collection.
#2 is 9.4 and #8 is 9.6 (highest graded copy).
Minimal money means I gotta take the pedigrees I can afford that fit into my want list.

Here is my image contribution to the Winnipeg thread. Unlike many of the silver age copies that exhibit the signature at the top of the page, my copy does not!
