View Full Version : The Final Straw For Me And PGX......(A Look Back)

I posted this over at the other forum some time ago, but I thought maybe it could do some good over here as well, in case there are some people here that don't know the story.

A little background: James(STLComics) and I were doing web work and promotional work for PGX for the past year before this, trying to get PGX to the next logical level. Pretty much nothing had worked out the way we had planned at this point.

March 22nd 2006

I was basically on the fence at this point and leaning towards leaving PGX altogether. It was a very depressing time because I felt that I had given my all to PGX and I was going to have to walk away.

Ma4pres(nwcomics now), was now blatantly selling "Lederesque" books without a care in the world. Even though I had asked Daniel several times now if Ma4pres was Leder, he was still denying it. I pretty much knew 95% Daniel was lying at this point but I could not prove it.

Steve(Zipper68) posted a Ma4pres auction in a thread here(CLICK HERE to read it (http://forum.stlcomics.com/viewtopic.php?t=2852)).
A signed Charles Schulz letter slabbed in a PGX holder. Here is a LINK (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6263351566&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_ReBay_Pr4_PcN_BIN_IT) to the auction.

How could Daniel have NOT known who submitted this Peanuts letter for encapsulation?
That was it for me. I was done.
It was obvious to me that Daniel had been lying to us all along. Leder was never "suspended" in fact he had been slabbing books(among other things) for him all along and he knew it.

March 23rd 2006

Excerpt from my "PGX resignation" letter:

I have officially cut my ties with PGX as of yesterday, as much as I hated to because I know James is still trying to work with him(for how much longer, I don't know). This has been very frustrating for James and I.

I have come to the point where I just can't stick up for Daniel anymore with all the shady business practices he is doing and doing behind our backs and lying to our faces about it. I feel like a phony or a sellout every time I attempt to go to bat for him anymore.

I feel terrible about cutting ties with PGX like this for STL sake but I just can't go on working for that phony and sticking my neck out for him. I want no part of the Leder/PGX scandal, when it hits the fan it's going to be just as bad or worse than Jason Ewert IMO.

Ironically "it hit the fan" only a couple of days later. The trimmed atom bomb books were discovered and the rest is history.

A sad, sad tale indeed.

Was Leder in cahoots with or "not-so-silent partner" with Patterson from day one?

And what was their connection prior to the formation and launching of PGX?

No surprise that one of Leder's buddies is still going strong over at CGC forums

That's the guy. "Denis" claims he was an innocent party as was Terence Leder while PGXs former restoration guy was pawning off his altered wares .... or some such BS. He has a big post count now and has been somewhat accepted into the fold there.

Which I can't understand. Normally when there is "blood in the water" the forumites there are like Homer on a donut.

In this guy's case, he offered to PM anyone who was interested with "all the dirty details" which seemed to have caused the "hounds" to be called off.

(How many clichés can I work into one post).

I've never bothered to get the "skinny" but I don't understand his seemingly very swift acceptance by the normally cynical brethren.

He is more accepted than CG. And despite constantly breaching some sort of rule or other he is still there. All this bunk of "explaining himself" through PMs or the phone is BS too. He is a lying sack and as long as he is there spreading his fud or trying to make himself appear like some respectable comic fan CGC forum loses face .... what ever face they have left that is. Hell I think the only reason he is still there is because of his semi anti-PGX stand.

Apparently, that's not a difficult position to find ones self in for any given scam artist.

Right, and the same can be said about me, and all of the other members of the CGC forum. We can't get rid of someone that refuses to go, we are not admins.

We beat that fool over the head for the first month he was there, but he just kept coming around and eventually those that were bagging on him just got tired of waisting their breath. The guys a thief, but what can we do other then point that out? Besides, even if he was banned from there, he'd just come over here.

BTW, do you read new comics? Do you buy them at True Believers? That's where I get my new books. Chris and I are old friend that go way back. I'm there just about every Thursday afternoon around 2:00 if you would like to drop in and introduce yourself. It would be neat to meet someone from these boards in person, I don't often have that opportunity.

Comic keys, the cutter right, I knew that. Hey OLDGUY, wow someone in my home town on this board cool. I don't buy new comics, but we should hang one day. Let's figure out how to do that. Chris plays music with Adam, who is across from me so I see him sometimes. PM me and we'll get lunch one day or something. Do you know Sam? He goes by ATAKRA and used to work at True Believers. He's an obnoxious guy and pisses me off a lot, but we've been friends since we were like 17 so what are ya gonna do. Anyway, yeah we should hang, I have so few local people to talk comics with, that's why I'm here a lot.

I play poker with Adam. We had a game last Friday over at my girlfriends house. I've been to Adams a ton, we played poker over there almost every Friday last year. I'm willing to bet I've met you at some point.

I'll PM you my phone number and if you want you can send me yours. If nothing else we could meet at the comic store and geek out for a while, maybe grab a bite to eat.

Naw, go for it! That's how secrets and I got together. We met at my Monrovia LCS and walked down the street to my favorite Mexican restaurant.

I'll probably see him again this week as Stan Lee is doing an autograph signing near where secrets works. Stan will sign the book he's pushing plus one other item. An early Fantastic Four in my case.

I'm still waiting for dpxcomicsgirl and eelkat to respond to my invitations. Or maybe I've already received their responses.

Yo pas, you or your sister going to Darlington? I am.

Last Friday, I went to the Wachovia where I had to wear appropriate attire for a golf course and practice my golf clap. This weekend I may or may not wear a shirt and plan to hurl obscenities at Kyle Busch (unless any kiddies are present of course).

SILLYSHIP--pirate eye--

Wachovia, golf clap, Kyle Bush, this is all alien to me.

Hey old guy I'm the guy with the long hair who shows up once in a while, we've probably seen each other. I'm really busy with trying to make money right now, but we'll hang soon.

Don't you think it's kinda cool, two corralers who live in the same town meeting up?

Pasnat and secrets know each other personally due to the corral, that's frakkin' cool.

Sorry, didn't see your post until today cocky.

No, we missed Darlington. But what a great race that was. Denny had it in the bag... up until the end. And my sister has never liked Kyle Busch, so you can imagine how her feelings intensified after that race.

Since Jeremy Mayfield no longer has a ride, we're both looking for new drivers to follow. I'm checking out Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards, she's thinking about David Reagan.

I'm not sure whether she's been to Darlington or not. She wants to hit all the tracks and is only halfway through. If she hasn't been there yet, I'd love to go there and maybe get together. I had a great time meeting fulltimer in Talladega.

By the way, do you southern folks really eat boiled peanuts, or is that just a joke you pull on Yankees? They are nasty!

Let me know if y'all ever get down here, pas. My buddy and I had a great time. The only problem with night races, like night football games, is that it gives the drunks a longer time to drink before the event starts. My area (coming out of turn 4) wasn't too bad though. I got about 20 minutes on a camcorder. It's a pretty cool perspective to catch the race from that angle, along with all of the yelling going on around you.

The weekend before, I went to Friday's round at the Wachovia PGA event in Charlotte. Definitely 2 entirely different crowds, although we were there until the bitter end, following the last 3 lesser known golfers up 18, where there were a couple hecklers who would fit right in at a NASCAR event.

Boiled peanuts? Nothing better on a hot summer day sitting on a dock with some sweet tea. I even got the kiddies hooked.

I work right over the hill from our local BBQ joint...if the wind is right, the air is filled with the aroma of wood smoke and pork.....Mmmmmmm smoky pork.....aaaaahhhhh....

Unfortunately, if the wind is wrong, we're down wind from the greasy fish joint...#gross#
