This was just awesome. How come I can't find a thread about it here? I can't imagine it passed from the theaters here in the states with barely a whisper. It was a truncated but great version of the comic.

Awesome movie. Can't wait for it to come out on Bluray.

I'm really shocked there was no buzz about this film.. I would have thought it would have gotten some critic appeal.

Great movie! I don't know about the critic appeal, all I know is that it is comic-based and it's worth checking out for me.

Actually, V for Vendetta did get a decent amount of buzz with the public and a respectable amount of dollars allocated in pre-release marketing/advertising. The movie got 72% positive reviews on
www.rottentomatoes.com (http://www.rottentomatoes.com) 156 of 217 reviewers positive. It's the best movie review site-a accumulator of reviews from Roger Ebert on down...
I always refer to the website before spending my dollars at the theatre or with Blockbuster Online. Iron Man is currently at 94% at last look. This is a highly impressive number. Anything over 60% is considered a 'fresh tomatoe' on the site. #blahblah#

I loved it.
Saw it in the theatre twice even though the 2nd time it wasn't quite as dramatic.
Saw it with wife and then saw it with bro-in-law as his wife didn't want to go with him. :)
The fight scene in the tunnel (well wasn't really a fight...more of a slaughter) was great.

I loved it, on IMDB, the best movie sight around if you want totally coroporate slanted reviews & lots of poorly written un-professional opiniated rants filled with trite sayings like "I want those 90 minutes of my life back" it scores an 8.2 with almost 139,000 votes which makes it the #150th best movie like ever. Totally. I'd say it's a home run!

strange how with all of that it breezed in and out of the theaters so fast.

Hmmm, why do you think that is?

Because it is from a 10+ year old source? Nobody really talks that much about V for Vendetta. When people think of or talk about Moore that title doesn't really spring up. The other problem with movie is the the mask muffling the lead's voice makes it hard to understand him sometime. It was a decent movie but all and all it was a bit dry. There isn't enough in the filming, story or acting that would really garner much "acclaim" from the seasoned critic.
Like I say it is a decent movie but there is nothing in it to make it stand out.

It was pretty formula, but I thought that the action was really well done. But, again, it was formula. Although the part with her in jail was pretty, kinda, a little original. Sort of. Gimme a minute and I'm sure I could find another movie with that angle. Damnit OXBLADDER I used to like this movie, now I'm starting to hate it.

NO need to do that. It was a decent film better than many comic movies. I am glad that some are willing to dig into these "alternative" stories. Whiteout, a Oni comic written by Greg Rucka, is coming to film, apparently, and, like V it will be a nice break from the regular super-hero stuff. It isn't anything brilliant or anything but certainly is nice and contained like V.
The thing I like about V was that it was a very different "revenge" movie. It also had alot of interesting imagery and good dialog. I would think that if some promotion of this movie had been around it could have garnered more critical acclaim ... at least for the story and the impact the book had on many in the industry. More people would sooner see a movie than read the comic so at least it shows that there are comic writers that can think outside the box.

Just as a little cross-promotion, I will be running the next Name the Mystery Comic Cover game in the Forum Games section, and one of the prizes you can pick from is a V For Vendetta TPB. Coming soon, check it out!

Funny. I felt just the opposite that this was a great film, a great story and something so different fromt he usual hollywood fare that it should have been eaten up by the critics.

I didn't care for it. Maybe because I didn't really ever understand what was going on. Was it the future? The past? Some weird alternative reality? What?
I just found it confusing.

It grossed $70 millions, just breaking even. A shame it didn't go better box office; it certainly deserved it.
V for Vendetta is one of the movies I like to use as an example of how changes in translating a movie from funny books to the screen are not always bad. Capt. steel will argue this point, but V was just a great movie.
The movie ending was vastly different from the series that originally appeared in 2000 AD or Warrior, and was finished by Vertigo.
Yet the changes were valid and created a totally absorbing if different take on the V concept. It was another great way to end the story, even if it didn't follow the book.
V for Vendetta is one of the greatest comic book-to-screen adaptations, and a terrific movie even if you didn't know it had comic book roots.

I didn't know it had comic book roots when I saw it.

I use my friend Gary as a litmus test. He's never read a comic book in his life, but he goes to all the comic-book movies. He loved Iron Man because "they blow a lot of things up."
He really liked V for Vendetta, and bought the DVD when it came out, and he never knew it was based on a comic book.
shadow ferret, it was based in the future, in a possible England where Thatcherism, as Moore saw it, was carried to an extreme. England had become a Fascist state.
