I forgot to consider the resolution the world is running when I laid out my listing template... how bad do these seem to you lookers with lower resolution monitors?

Thanks, Ken

Nope, they show up fine for me...hey, wait a minute...you're not just trying to get people to look at your listings are you?
Nicely done. :D

Sadly in this case no.

Do you have to do alot of left/right scrolling to center the auction? I'm not used to that left hand store navigation links...

Thanks,
Ken

Everything looks good on this end. No left or right scrolling at all.

I actually did have to very ever so lightly and gently scroll a bit to the right. I'm using a 15" monitor (side to side) with a res of 1280x1024. Man your shipping is cheap, I can't go that low, I'll be taking a look at these, but I'm wayyyyy over budget (like that word fits anywhere into the scheme) and need to pay for something...Ohw what is it... RENT! Yeah that's it. I hate that shit.

Thanks guys. I guess a little scrolling is ok. I just didn't want people to have to really work at seeing the verbiage or pictures.

I may take out that fancy "superhero" frame around the whole listing. Looks cool but does make it extra wide.

Yeah, I go with the cheap shipping and hope to make it up on the bids. Doesn't always work that way but what the heck.

Thanks again, Ken

NO NO NO, leave the frame, it's glossy and it adds character. I would change it though, something less somebody else's and more yours and then use it always so as to gain....uhh what's the term...You know like, symbol, logo, recognition. For example, everyone recognizes a comicmanshipper or Investmentcollectibles2 listing as soon as they see it, talk about bad scrolling look at Investm... I just bought some stuff from them and suggested to them that they change it.

Looks like everyone is taking photos like that now huh, the skyscraper ant eyes view. I guess it reduces glare and just about totally negates any creases due to the angle, but I kinda don't like it, just my opinion.

You might want to jack up the shipping, it'll make my listings look better, heh heh.

Looks good to me Ken, no problems viewing the auctions.

I like your auction template too!

Little bit of scrolling but so long as it's not a lot of text I can live with it. I can't stand scrolling back and forth to read a sentence but I guess I'm going to have to live with it.

So Disney, do you have to scroll to read text on mine?

I'll keep those ideas in mind Sillyship. Will probably keep the shipping low though and hope to attract eyeballs. That photo style lets you make the listing quick and with the lower end comics I sell I give a grade range that is on the conservative end so everyone is happy.

Thanks for looking Hoss.

Thanks, Ken

I like the way your big photos are right in the customers face. Although Auctiva makes listing a little bit easier, but I hate those little images that you have to click.

I really like the super-heroes in the payment, shipping terms & others. Does anyone hassle you about that? Is it legal?

This is a fast way for you to list huh? I'm guessing you just have a template in word, you fill it out, drop the photo addresses in, switch it to HTML and then drop it in the eBay lister maker they have online? Or Do you use Turbo Lister or something like that?

kenmacny
05-22-2008, 04:03 PM
Hey Silly, yeah I try to put big photos and scans up along with a grade so there are no surprises.

I use Turbo Lister and just change the description text and .JPG file name and it goes pretty quick. Does seem like it takes me a while to get rolling though. Too many other distractions that are more fun than listing comics.

Hi Ken, it's no biggie for me...there are much worse scrolling ones out there but since you asked on the "100 Marvel Comic Lot Iron Man Spiderman X-Men Hulk Set" I can see about 75% of the screen without having to move over.

The first blue sententence gets cut off without any scrolling at (see c

the word chart is cut off...but like I said no biggie.

Your auctions are very appealing to the eyes and are well done. Good Luck with them. Let me know if you're going to sell any gold, silver or bronze age lot's in the future.

Do you ever get into trouble using the superhero images???? (they look great but I thought the copyright laws don't permit them..don't know how that works yet..we're going to have to speak to a copyright lawyer soon for our store).

Hank.

Hi Hank, thanks for the detail info on what you are seeing. Makes me think I need to consider a re-formating of my listings a bit. I may need you advice again after I make a change or 2 if you are willing...

I don't really have much Bronze or older stuff. I mostly just buy newer sets and runs to read then just regurgitate them back into the ebay muck after I'm done with them to try and recoup some of my comic budget.

Regarding the images, beats me. I figure they are from the same company as the books I'm selling so what the heck. I wouldn't use them if I was building a business site though. Thanks again, Hank

Ask away Ken, it's no big deal to me anymore...just tired of all the tv and computer companies pushing widescreen down everyones throat, we hate widescreen. I don't know why it's so popular..sure I love bigger screens for things but bigger square wise. Rant over, don't want to be a whiner. Ask anytime. Good luck!

Hank.

Hi Hank, I tinkered with the white space around the listing... does this version require less scrolling for you.

Thanks in advance,
Ken

Actually just a bit more now, without scrolling I see up to "save on postag" then I have to scroll but like I said before no biggie. I LOVE the Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman images...looks very professional!

How do you do the frame? I'd love to make one for myself, if you don't mind divulging that trade secret.

Ok, thanks. I made those Titans images a little bigger than I normally do but was hoping I tweaked the code to offset it. Guess I'll just have to decide about the overall look or let a little scrolling happen.

Wish I could take credit for the images but obviously I'm just borrowing them.

Thanks again, Hank.

Hey Silly, no secret here. I just used code generated by this site. Easy as pie.

They do some real nice stuff. Lets see you listings when you get it done.

Have fun.

Not sure what resolution all these others (the ones what doen't hafta scroll) are using.

1152x864 here.

I have to scroll to the right a bit, to get past the navigation menu.

Then, I can see your entire listing, with borders, on my screen.

But until I scroll right, I don't see all the text.

I think folks are used to that by now. It's be really nice if eBay allowed you to place the navigation menu on the right side of the listing, though.

It look a lot like the NEW SEARCH is going to look on eBay.

I may take that frame around my listing out, I like the superhero feel it gives, but the scrolling is a bummer.

I have to scroll also. I tend to ignore auctions if it is too much effort to read them. Unless I'm specifically searching for an item you are selling, I wouldn't browse your selections. I'm not sure what options you have, but it's best to setup tables off percentages rather than pixels. Anyone with impaired vision is not going to be watching their monitor at the highest resolution.

I'm even having to scroll to see the smiley options on the right while I write this message. Thankfully the rest of the board stays on the screen or I'd be posting here even less.

I figure that is the way most people browse. I actually have the tables width in percentage but with the added store frame I may just scrape the whole table thing. I'd hate to lose the impaired vision segment of ebay buyers.

Must be too big... but I figured the text would wrap to the next line. Is it not? Maybe thats a clue...

1) I don't have to scroll to see that. That is how I'd browse your listings, if I did. I don't use the store categories. they suck. Not yours, specifically, but that's just not how I ever view an eBay store. It sucks. I browse a sellers other items (like link above) and drill down from there, as necessary. Some sellers actually use incorrect eBay categories throughout their store listings, and only use useful homemade categories. Finding stuff from these sellers is difficult.

2) Even if you use percentages, those may be interpreted as percentages of the space eBay has allocated to your listing, to the right of the navigation menu.

To my mind, the navigation bar is more a barrier than the table.

Does anybody here ever browse a store by the sellers categories?

Just curious.

If You are allocated only a portion of the screen, drop the percentages down to accomodate the amount of space you have. Set the max value at something like 75% and work from there. I sometimes use the seller's categories if they are selling a wide variety of stuff.

Thats the big question. I don't. But maybe somebody does? I'd just assume drop that whole left navigation and gain the space. But in the end I may drop the embedded table trick and just do a straight forward listing. I doubt it will hurt sales losing the frame around the listing... but the chicks really dig it...
