Sadly my only 10.0 is a PGX.It was the only one I could afford.I still like it though.

I never heard of that Valiant book. Was it part of their universe or a licensed book, like their WWWF series? The Price was my intro to Dreadstar. I still prefer the B&W edition, but thats a nice copy.
My books top out at a Legion( 1984) #1 9.8. and a Signature Series Crisis#1(1985)9.8. Don't have many other slabbed moderns, and most of my SA slabs are in the 8.0-9.4 range.

Not sure about the Valiant, they came out in the period when I skipped collecting for 15 years.I just picked it up cause it was a 10.
Had to have the Dreadstar and yeah,I got the Eclipse b&w also.I discovered Vanth when Epic Illustrated came out and loved it right off the bat.

I got lost for a while and wanted a 10.0 book no matter what it was just to have one. Due to the conversations on the coral I don't really care anymore. I just really feel that I cannot become a collector of the . (point) system. I guess from my conversations on the coral that I am more of a readable run collector. But the 10's are still interesting.
Has anyone ever resubmitted a 10?
I looked it up but I keep forgetting, what is CGC's (does PGX have a registry?) percentage rating as far as books submitted VS. 10.0's?

Well, back in 2004 it was one-tenth of one percent, which comes out to one out of every one thousand comics graded.
"A GEM MINT is rare—only a tenth of one percent of all comics we have graded have been 10.0." Steve Borock

For that statistic to make more sense, you need to know the individual breakdowns for 10.0's for each age. I doubt there have been more than a handful from the Golden Age and Silver Age combined. If any at all.

Oldest newstand 10 I'm aware of is a Thor from around 1966. I seem to remember a giveaway from the 50s scoring a 10 but I think it was in the middle of a bundle that was never distributed. The Thor belonged to MH Chuck and recieved a good deal of publicity. It was a few years ago so it's possible another older book has superseded it.

I also recall a Tales of Suspense #47 that was graded a 9.9. That's the oldest silver age book I remember seeing with an upper stratosphere number on it.
And I found it... it's sitting in the CGC Gallery...

One out of a thousand? That doesn't sound right.

so where are the other 9.9s and 10s?

There's also an early Thor that CGC gave a 10.0 from that distributer's lot that surfaced a few years ago.
I should remember the issue number, but I can't.
IMHO, except for the exceptionally rare one-out-of-ten-thousand book from a distributer's lot or warehouse find, it would be impossible to find a true "Gem Mint" SA book.
Nearly impossible for a true-blue "Gem Mint" BA book.
In my book, all it takes is a couple of fingerprints and forget it.
That's what we expect of 10.0 Moderns, so why should SA or BA books be any different?

This is why I would like to see some kind of data base for graded comics besides the census. If nothing else on pre-2000 books. Most 10.0 are moderns that go straight to be graded so they don't excite me.ebay usually has a handfull nearly all the time and they are nearly all brand new books.
Hey! I just thought of a new age catacory for comics. After modern age comes cgc age.Remember folks! you heard it hear first.#woohoo#
Now how do I get that phrase copyrighted?

I have a number of books graded 9.9 or 10. Only thing is I'm the grader. Why should I pay someone else to do my grading for me?
Just kidding! Back, back!

That Tales Of Suspense doesn't quite look 9.9 but maybe it's just the scan. Here's the oldest perfect ten CGC has recorded...it's a no cover (never had one which is even more impressive) promotional from 1949.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v633/Hank27/perfect10.jpg
Comics Guaranty, LLC, announced that they recently graded the oldest 10.0 in comics. Published in 1949, the copy of Kolynos Presents The White Guard #1 predates the next oldest 10.0 by 19 years. Unlike many of the other CGC graded 10.0s that exist, this comic is 54 years old. The book is noted as having white pages. What makes this book even more astonishing is that the comic is a promotional comic. Promotional comics are typically made of cheap pulp paper and lack any real protection from abuse unlike their standard comic counterparts. Promotional comics are typically very scarce in high grade for this reason.
"Steve Borock (CGC's Primary Grader) and I were in shock when this comic book came across our desks," said Mark Haspel, a CGC finalizer and CGC's pedigree expert. "This may be the oldest 10.0 we will ever grade!"
The White Guard giveaway comic was a book that promoted Kolynos toothpaste. The comic was discovered along with numerous other paper items from an old dentist office on the east coast.

I received a 10 on a submission I got back from CGC in January, ASM 277. It only stayed in my collection about a week before I sent it off to the link. I decided I would much rather buy something like a nice Action 252 5.0 or mid-high ASM 121 or 122 with the money I could get for it. It was nice to have a 10, but the issue had no importance to me and I would rather have something I really wanted.
