View Full Version : Thinking (again) of selling my collection.

I'm still playing with the idea of selling my collection (as
ever).
I've posted a spread sheet:
http://bcspage.com/COLLECTION.htm (http://%22http://bcspage.com/COLLECTION.htm%22)
You can look at some of
them (scanned through the bags) here:
http://bcspage.com/comicscollectionarchive.htm (http://bcspage.com/comicscollectionarchive.htm)
Would anyone care to suggest an asking
price for the whole thing? And would anyone care to
suggest a strategy beyond selling them in one large bunch?
Thanks, I appreciate your input!

Welcome Kullerfilms #cheers#
As stated on another board before it went POOF !! :?
I think you stand to make more in a lot.. Lots of nice key books & find the one buyer needing that and your off.
As selling here I like to list books at what I paid for them so I'm not making a whole bunch of money but I like to sell comics.
BUT
If feebay is your game then you might even get 2 or 3 people going at it in bid wars..
Good luck with this venture..

Do you have a $$$ number in mind for the entire lot?

i'd like advice in this area too. haven't sold any in many years since i was 9 and had a flea market booth lol.
~ what is the best venue? Ebay? consignment?
~ any good alternative auction sites other than Feebay?
~ if looking to sell as a lot, how does one find the buyers other than a dealer?
oh and if selling on eBay, what's the best way? low starting w/ no reserve? ive seen some do that and get screwed w/ awfully low sales.
low start w/ reserve? hate reserves myself.
or list it at fair market?
any advice appreciated. also hope i'm not hijacking this thread. just thought it was related. i'll gladly start another topic if so. thanks!

I am interested in all of the Action Comics. For sure.
And...and...and...ALL of the Lois Lane books (if my wallet can withstand the strain).
Shoot me a PM!
Thanks,

I'm also interested in some of the Action Comics and the Adventure Comics too but I'm going to have to wait until the box that habib is sending me get here! I'm also looking at the Superman & Superman Family too.

I started listing books here first & what doesn't move will go to FEEBAY (not for long :D) and found that even though there isn't alot of people their is enough to sell books.
And the way FEEBAY is headed it won't be long before the comic listing are over inflated & so high priced no one will want them.
Plus their are alot of great sellers here on these board: dhennen -habib-Hoss-JBD-CG-Fulltimer56 ect.ect.ect.#blahblah##blahblah#

Thanks guys- it's a lot to get my head around, I'd hate to make a mistake.
Does anyone have an idea about an asking price for the whole bunch?

That's a hard one to put a $$$$ on.
BUT if I had to I'd say 8k or 10K and that's if the wind was blowing right & this is just my opinion.....:D

If you guys are going to start an actual auction site here, I'd be happy to wait and help get it started. Are there concrete plans?

That's an interesting mix of books, lots of Silver Age and then jumps to some great Modern eye candy like Birds of Prey, Catwoman and Liberty Meadows. Are you the original buyer of the whole collection or did you inherit the older stuff?
If your grading is solid you'll rake in more than 10K on the key silver age books. I'm not a big fan of CGC but I'd seriously consider getting some of those Silver Age keys graded
Good luck,

I put the collection together myself, all in the last 7 years or so.

And thanks, Dave.
I'm leaning towards sending in a few of what I think are the highest grade books to get a handle on my grading vis-a-vis CGC (there are some dazzling non-keys in there, honestly), then sending anything that should be in. Then the auctions will begin- I've been looking, and collections, while generally doing well (well enough to make buying them to flip too much trouble), I think mostly single issues and small lots is the way to go. Until I change my mind tomorrow (again).
But cash is looking mighty good right now...

I think you have got the right idea with the small lots.Straight runs of 10 seem to do very well, especially if you have long runs to break up.
Good Luck!

It's tough to tell on a price now a days, a lot of the people with deep pockets want the high grade stuff. I have seen important or early Spidey's in low grade go for half of guide. On the other hand, I have also seen them go for the guide as well. It all depends.
Like a lot of people said though, I would list a lot of books in runs of 10. I wish I had the cash to get that Wonder Woman run right now, really need that #200.

Well, I've done a good 7K on the stuff I've sold so far, and I've still got most, including some keys, left.
I've listed a lot of the Lois Lane books in my store. They're premium priced, but I'd be happy to consider an offer if someone wanted to buy 6-10 or more. If you see something on the list that I haven't put in the store, please ask and I'll discuss it with you and get it listed. Here's an auction link, but of course everything else is accessible from there:

To date the collection has garnered around $30,000 in sales (pre-fees). I have acquired a few items to flip that are included in that total, but I doubt that's substantial.
