I'm stuck in the thriving metropolis of Marathon Ontario Canada tonight with a slow-speed hook-up in my hotel room. Barely made it in before dark. As soon as the sun goes down, the moose are out on the roads as thick as black-flies.
It'll take me forever to edit the pics...it took me long enough just to post them!

Camper, I have always loved Batman (no, no, not that love kind like Robin did early in their careers). Bats has always appealed to me as a kid because he always had something under his sleeve, he's smart, has no powers. He should have been a Marvel character.

Joe Quesada vs. Batman.
I think BATS would lose.

Yeah, those books look like the ones you got from me, SP.
Nice books.
That #319 was one of the first Tec Comics I ever owned.
If that's the one you got from me, that's the same one I got at the Silver Snail Comic Shop in Toronto in 1978 or so for 50 cents.

Captain America #100

When I first started collecting, I thought it was crazy that a premiere issue would be numbered 100, much like the Hulk #102. For the newbie, it can get very confusing.

Fantastic Four #48

One of the best stories to come out of the Silver Age was FF #48-50, the coming of Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer.

That's it for this month. I'll be on vacation for a week in the Pacific Northwest. I'll be posting some covers more next month when I get back.

Silver Surfer #1

Here's one of my favorite characters. I've always liked John Buscema's rendering of the Silver Surfer more than Jack Kirby, Ron Lim or any other artist. This first issue contains the origin and is a giant issue. When I first started collecting, the Silver Surfer was on top of my list.

I've always loved Star Trek!

Nice #1 Jael!

I know Overstreet lists the Photo back cover as a rare variation but I have owned 5 copies of ST #1 and every one was a photo back cover.....I am just not that lucky to always get the "rare" one.......so I think Overstreet must have a few of those himself he wants to get a premium for! :P

Hmmm...you may be right. That was the selling point when I purchased it years ago. At least I paid less than guide for it at the time. It might be the same situation as with Conan #3 and Silver Surfer #4. Overstreet has been proven to not so accurate some of the times.

Unusual Tales #13
I truthfully don't like the goofy stories that much. I am finding that bronze and silver stories are some of my least favorite. The art is great, but most of the stories suck, Neil Adams' Batman is one, of many, acceptions. As an example I bought the full run of Hawk and Dove, SA and Modern and after reading them all I hated them. However, I do like the SA Sci-Fi stuff like T.O.S. I prefer the recent stories, even though I know stories like "Marvels" and "X-Statix" are changing things in a way that could be considered bad I still like that wave. The need to expain in every scientific possibile deatail, how a super heroes abilities could be possible ruins it for some people, but when it's done as well as it was in "Marvels" I can't help but be interested .I think a line of comics that I am really into right now is the VERTIGO series, but I have only read "Sandman" and "Books of Magic" which are the best things I have ever read period, all books included. Maybe not as far as most peoples literary criticism's go, (HEY CG, WHAT DO YOU THINK?) but I loved them, and that's what counts. I recently bought a bunch of HELLBLAZER, and look forward to reading those soon. I like the GA and the alternative comics. Either real raw or real out there.

I am reading the 1-75 DD and the whole heroes lin court/insurance claims thing is a drag in a way, but it is us comic fans just relating in a different way, NO?

And so, what do you read, actually read? I feel a new thread coming on....

Like the covers of the more famous "pre-superhero" artists like O'Mealia, Guardineer, Flessel, etc. on Detective, Action, More Fun and non-DC titles like Planet and Famous Funnies (Frazetta covers) are far more intricate in detail and artistic impact than most of the simplistic superhero covers, the early pre-silver and Silver age DC covers, like Mystery In Space, My Greatest Adventures, and Brave and Bold #1-27 are artistic gems. Especially those Viking Prince and Silent Knight covers, those early B&Bs being the rarest of the rare books to get in Fine or better of the entire Silver age.

This was a grail for me when I first heard about it in the 70's. Since then hundreds of copies have surfaced. I still like the Wally Wood art anyway.

When I sell this comic, I should describe this as a bondage/torture cover. The woman is scotch-taped to a glass slide and being tickled by a pencil.:p

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast space, and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow--between science and superstition. And it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call The Twilight Zone.

I approached this from a different angle...I just pulled out a pile of about twenty books at random and this is the result..

Rats no cover..but still from 1964 with the Flintstones at the World's Fair.

Like I said..just random. The rest were 15 and 20-25 center's. Got eighteen thousand more to go through.

Here's one of my favorite silver age covers...I still remember first seeing it in the early 70's, got it in the mail from Howard M Rogofsky. I knew FF 8 had the first appearance of the Puppet Master, but had no idea what the cover looked like. I got it and # 11 (another fav) at the same time for $ 7.50 each. I had never seen the 11 at the time either. I kind of miss those days when you didn't know what a book would look like.GOD BLESS...

Gorgeous books, Thomas, but I always felt that the DD figure on the 39 was sort of "weak" - as in a paste-up or correction done at the editor's (Stan's) request.

The figure looks very Woodish, rather than Kirbyesque.

(Talk about English as a living language  )

It looks "Woodish" for good reason...Daredevil was done by Woods on the cover and in the book. Kirby did everything else The draw for me on this particular cover was Doom. Though not as impressive as #16, still one of his more ominous cover appearances
