I've posted before about what constitutes the first Peanuts by Schultz to appear in a comic book, and resurrected one of those threads. OPG #38, pg. 942, United Comics #22 contains the note: "(5-6/52) 2 pgs. early Peanuts by Schulz (1st in comics?)" Tip Topper #17 on page 923 says: "(6-7/52) (2nd app. of Peanuts by Schulz in comics?) (see United Comics #22 for 5-6/52 app.)"
OK, so there are question marks, but still, note the dates. A few months ago I bought a group of United Comics, and am just getting around to reading them. So what do I find?

The indicia says March - April 1952. So what do you say? Have I got something significant enough to contact Overstreet? Do any of you know him? We Peanuts collectors can be a rabid bunch, so I have to believe there would be some interest out there.

I don't know about Bob Overstreet, but you could try contacting Flying Donut (http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showprofile&User=292) at the CGC boards. He's an overstreet advisor, and one of my fellow variant geeks. He'd likely be able to help you out.

For truly rabid Peanuts fans, check out this month's Previews for the vinyl Snoopy figure. It's the early classic version when he looked like a puppy. It's Sooooo cute and SOOooo expensive!

There's a good amount of egregiously stale info in the guide, unfortunately.
Contacting an advisor might be the best route, as using the email on the gemstone site doesn't seem to do anything.
Cool Book!

Sold this one on ebay this year. Think these are the two earliest Peanuts. They are both March/April 1952

I used to send a lot of info and corrections to Overstreet. They even listed my name as a contributor in a few of the earlier issues. I always got a thank you letter (this was before email) from a Jeff Overstreet. I figured that was Bob's son. I'd say, send it.

I'll wait until I score my Tip Top 173, then I can send pictures of both.

You ought to call Bubba and see if he has an extra one.

So it's taken me 21 months, but I'm almost ready to answer. I just got an ASN from Dave's Comics Vault for my copy of #20, so i should know within the week.

It's now official, at least as far as I'm concerned, United Comics #21, March 1952, is the first appearance of Peanuts in comic books. Unless somebody finds an earlier one,
but I really doubt it. I've been through all the likely titles, including Nancy and Sluggo, Tip Top, Tip Topper, Sparkler, and Comics on Parade. The United #20 here does not have it (and neither do #18 or #19).

Were you aware of this web page?

It had #21 already listed.

Actually i had seen that a long time ago, but didn't remember the details. Glad to see they didn't find an earlier one. Thanks for posting it.
