Spine split...

Is there ever a case in which an almost 2 and a half inch spine split (entire bottom left up to the bottom staple) would ever grade a VG/FN 5.0???

Even if the rest of the book were perfect and that was the only flaw?

I would put this at a FR/GD 1.5 myself and according to the Overstreet CB Grading guide.

I got it in a batch of others and didn't get a chance to properly check it then and now I'm fuming. Only lost about 15 bucks on it but it is a low # JLA and I'm very dissapointed. I'm thinking of calling him and asking him about it but I'd like a few more opinions first.

Since I don't consider myself more of an expert than the people who put the OGG together, I'd agree with their Fa-G 1.5. I'd say anything over an inch disqualifies it from being 4.0 or higher.

I can't see anything higher than VG unless it's otherwise pristine Mint. More likely G/VG or so

Yeah I know....shoulda checked it then but he's a reputable guy and I bought hundreds at a time that day and didn't have time to go through them (in great detail til now) all. At least i only bought three from him that day and the other's are okay. My fault, another life lesson..don't let your guard down....EVER.

I wouldnt grade a book with that type of split over 3.0 Unless it was a very sharp book....And then of course not above a 4.0 and I would disclose that. A 2 inch plus split should always be mentioned.
