Listing fees? You won't find any listing fees at ComicsBid! :D

$7.50/month will get you an unlimited item store!

I'll talk about final value fees a bit later...but don't worry, they will still lower than those other comic selling places! :p

I'll also go over some of the great features the site will have in upcoming posts!

With this new Comicbid site taking place, does this mean the "Selling/Trading" and "Want to buy" Forums will be eliminated?
Also, Will the site be like ebay where you can get sniped in the last second of the auction .
Although Yahoo no longer ha their auction site, I always liked their set up when it come to bidding. They would add 5 minues to the auction time when another person bid at the last second. This I felt, helped both the seller and bidder. The bidder wouldn't get sniped at the last second and the seller could actually make more money with the extra bids.#lurk#
Just curious.

The trading/selling/buying boards here will not be going anywhere. These will still be here for folks to use if they wish. The new site will have trading functions as well. :p

As far as the last second sniping, I'm still trying to see which way I am going to go on it...What do you (as buyers and/or sellers) think? If ppl are bidding at the last second, should the auction automatically extend for a few minutes?

--

jaydeebee
12-15-2008, 03:42 PM
As a seller, I don't mind last-second sniping, because it means I'm making more money! :D

As a buyer, it really doesn't affect me either, because I'm usually the one doing the sniping! :D

However, if I have already placed a bid on an item, then that is the maximum I am willing to pay. So if someone wants to come in at the last second and offer more than my maximum, I might not like it, but I wasn't willing to go higher, so it doesn't really matter. I say let the snipers snipe. #oldie#

Well Hoss,since you asked,as a buyer I'm a sniper.I love that last second thrill.

As a seller,I want to get all I can and maybe an extra few minutes would mean more $$ for me.

Ebid has the extension as a feature the seller can select but I've not used it any.

You could do it where it will only extend for a certain number of times.Kinda like overtime in a football game.Either way is fine by me.

That's the crux of the matter right there my friend. If you get sniped and you're mad, then you've obviously left some bucks on the table you were willing to spend. Bummer, you got burned for being a cheapskate.

Perhaps there are those who get a rush out of sitting at a computer raising a bid 50 cents every 5 minutes. I'm not one of those people. Set an ending time and let the highest bidder win.

What seems to me is that fixed times force bidders to bid a maximum, whereas AE allows bidders to bid lower, hoping to wear the other guy out. I don't see a benefit to sellers. Thoughts?

jaydeebee

Another vote for no auction extensions!

They just permit low-ball bidders to keep nibbling away, hoping to get a cheap win, whereas when a sniper bids his max, you know he's putting up all the money he's willing to spend. It's up to the underbidders to determine if the sniper uses all or just some of the money he's willing to put on the table.

Which reminds me... will you use the eBay system where you only use enough of your bid (one increment above the underbidder) to win? Or if a person is willing to pay $10 and the next lowest bid is $5, will the winner have to pay the entire $10?

While out on the road for work today I got to thinking about something for the new Comicsbid site. It's going to be $7.50 a month.Cool,no problem.

It's been talked up on the ebay boards and probably several other places for a while now and probably we'll have some sellers from there consider listing here.If nothing else just to try it out. They maybe will list some lower priced stuff and see if it'll move.Which is a good idea for anyone.

Myself,I plan to have at least a couple of hundred books to put up,auction or BIN,so the monthly tab is not an issue for me.

Here is where it will possibly need 2 teirs for selling. The monthly rate for members and something else for the ones who just plan to "give her a spin and see how she handles".So maybe for the first month or so just have a small insertion fee for each listing (with no membership requirements)and then the option ends and requires the monthly fee.Like I said,I'm going all out from the git-go.

It could mean far more sellers and thus more overall traffic, which is a GOOD thing.

What does everyone think about that idea?

razorz000
12-16-2008, 11:48 PM
2 Teirs is right on IMO ... :D

The good stuff & the NOT so good stuff ;)

Good points Toz .. I've spread alot of info to people in the comic forums I've been at and also seen it get yanked off ebay board really fast.
There are alot of people who know about this site going up because of the small 1 day comic cons I go to and talking to the dealers their as well.

So maybe Hoss can sell the rights to ebay for an unseen amount of money
everyone bails on them, then he can start another site and live very-very nice buying all are comics .. #joker#

I was fine with a small listing fee & final value fee from the get go and still am - I don't want to see Hoss lose out on this site because he didn't charge enough for setting it up.

Not necessarily the good stuff and the not so good stuff.

All the listings would be together and not seperated by some are monthly members and others are not. Some people may want to try it before comitting the monthly fee.

Like I said about ebid. They have a one time fee of $50 and you can list free for life(or until it folds or whatever).I just don't want anyone to turn away without trying it.

With an option for a non-commitial trail basis I think more sellers would be willing to give it a try.

You don't have to have a store to list auctions, trades or buy out items. I know some people like to have a store front and was offering early registration to those folks so that on official opening day there would already be items up on the site for sale!

If anyone want to skip out on the store fees, there is always the standard listings available as well.

As for Horror? S.P would have a fit if we didn't have that. He might stage a sit-in or something.

I think you need to keep the mix as broad based as possible. Without the volume of people coming to your site, sellers will get frustrated that their stuff either has no bids or low bids. If sellers get frustrated, they won't take the time to list. If they don't take the time to list, buyers have no reason to look. Nobody has been able to compete with ebay because nobody has the volume of traffic they built over the years, They got that edge by simply being first.

I would think having 100 comic book collectors looking for comic books is better than 1,000 people looking for DVDs if your main focus is comics. Those 100 collectors would probably buy a helluva lot more comics than the other 1,000 looking for DVDs and on the offchance purchase a few comics. Having the right traffic is often better than having a lot of traffic, unless you want to be like eBay and sell everything. I'm not saying having more people browsing is not a good thing, I think it's probably more important to get enough people wanting comics to visit the site for it to be a successful comic site. Just my 2 cents.

My thinking on this is that if you have a bunch of comic collectors and readers as your customer base, then in addition to comics, they probably like and collect similar books, movies, action figures and so on. So I think it's only natural that comicsbid should have categories for those things as well. Of course, with a name like comicsbid, I doubt it's ever going to become a destination for those who are looking for electronics, tools, dollhouses, widgets, gizmos and that sort of thing. But that's not really the idea behind it.

My personal feeling is that comicsbid could become a hub for comic book collectors and enthusiasts, hopefully more than just 100, but only if the word gets out that it's here! Or...that it's almost here. ;)

It all has to do with sheer volume. If you narrow down the odds of somebody having a reason to use the site, you narrow down the potential for obtaining sales. Somebody may collect anything related to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and find out about the comics by accident. If so, that person would not have looked at a comics auction site. Somebody may sell electronics to get money, but buy comics with that money. Some of your biggest sales and profit may be from people who don't know the hobby well.

Q

I guess I'm in the minority. I think extensions are sometimes a good thing. As a bidder, you have a chance to reconsider what you're willing to bid, especially if you really want something. As a seller, you may get more.

Extensions are more like a live auction where it doesn't end until there are no more bids. And while it's sometimes annoying, you can't make it to every auction. Just bid what you're willing to pay with a proxy bid. I think we've gotten used to the way eBay has dictated to us how and when we should bid. It favors the sniper. I snipe for that very reason. Why not give the seller the option for extending the auction? I'm not saying all auctions should be extended, but at least have the option available.

Anyway, I'm looking with much anticipation to participating in the new site as a buyer and a seller.
