I hadn't, and got this set a year or so ago thinking they weren't in OPG. I think it was $15 for the set. But what do you know, they are in there, in the Big Little Book section. They go for $20-30 each. They're not much, B&W, but they are from the '30's.

Congratulations-- those are nice looking books. People sell BLBs on eBay that aren't nearly as good a shape as those. I've never heard of Penny Books either but it definitely looks like you got a terrific deal. What kind of page count do they have? I'm guessing they aren't as thick as BLBs.

At the biglittlebooks.com site they have a listing of Penny Books that Whitman published between 1938 and 1943. Your books are listed there too, of course.

Thanks Mordo, they are kind of cute. They have 32 numbered pages, plus the front and back covers. They're really cheap (what do you expect for a penny) no binding at the spine. The covers are thin cardboard, and the books are held together with two staples. The pages are just flat sheets, no wraparound. They all say copyright 1938, Whitman Books.

Those are pretty cool, I've seen a few but definitely hard to find!

I've never seen copies of these. They look to be in great shape. I like how the backgrounds are all the same color. It makes them appear to be a "set" instead of just random books. I assume they're a combination of text and artwork similar to a Big Little Book. A great find, malaprop! :)
