I've just registered at the Comics Corral and I wanted to stop in and say hello. I've been reading comics since 1967 so I guess I'm an old timer. My mother hates it when I tell people that Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen taught me to read. Well, at least he contributed greatly! ;)

I've been a seller on eBay under the name bluebolt7 since 1998 but don't list comics there very often anymore, mostly just DVDs and VHS videos for the old die hards who still like that format. I've listed a couple of dozen DVD listings on ComicsBid but I have a lot more that I could list if they would be welcome there. Since there's no sub-categories under DVD, I wasn't really sure if only horror, sci-fi and comic book related DVDs should be listed or if a variety of genres would be welcome at ComicsBid. I could also list a wide selection of new VHS videos from many different genres if there is any interest.

All of my new DVDs and VHS videos come from reputable wholesalers and are still in the original shrink wrap. Some are Public Domain titles but I don't sell bootleg or home made titles. I would welcome anyone interested in DVDs to check out my ComicsBid listings. :)

I have quite a large comic collection but I'm always looking to buy the comics I need to fill in gaps in my collection. I'd love to see ComicsBid grow and offer a solid alternative to eBay for purchasing comics. :)

Thanks for joining and good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I really appreciate it. :)

I've enjoyed reading all the different comic forums here in the Corral in the past but just never registered to take part. I originally found my way to the Comic Corral from reading posts on the eBay comics forum so I guess it's worth mentioning the Corral over there from time to time. :D

I'm glad your son is enjoying the DVDs, Charlton Guy. Hope there's nothing too scary in that set for him, or too ridiculous for you. :D

Thanks for your comments on the different DVD genres being welcome, Hoss. I'll get to work and list up some different things. If nothing else it will increase the listing count a bit and give folks more items to browse through.

Hey SolitaireOne! I meant to tell you that I enjoyed reading your tribute page to the Human Fly. I can remember watching him on The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder back in the 1970's. He came out in the Human Fly uniform and did the interview masked. You had to love that! :D

I still have a small newspaper clipping with a photo of the Human Fly around here somewhere. I'll have to look for that and scan it so you can have a copy. :)

WHOA ~ thanks for the props, BlueBolt7! :p I wasn't even aware of that Human Fly appearance! Maybe that Tomorrow Show interview can be seen on YouTube? That sure would be sweet to catch... and cool to see what newpaper item you have.

I was aware however, of a July 19, 1976 People magazine article (http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20066688,00.html), but have yet to nab an actual copy.

Thanks for the welcome razorz000 and Red Hook! :)

SolitaireOne...... I've dug up that newspaper clipping of the Human Fly to scan for you. I've had it stored in one of those magnetic photo albums for years. Sorry it's not in better shape. :( I wish it was dated but I do know it was from around the 1976-1977 time period. I was only fourteen or fifteen years old when I saw the Human Fly being interviewed by Tom Snyder. I can only remember that he came out dressed in his full uniform with his mask on and sat down for the interview. I also remember them showing a tape of him flying atop of an airplane and he was strapped to some sort of framework that kept him in place during the flight.

It was kind of cool as the closest thing we had to a live comic book hero in those days was Evil Knievel and masked wrestlers. Oh yeah, we also had Captain Sticky. Anyone here remember Captain Sticky? I do. #oldie#

Anyway, here's the scan of the clipping. You're welcome to use it if it is of any use to you. :)

Is that Giuseppe in the background? #rofl#

How about the rest of his crew?

Funky mustaches prevail!

And get a gander at that fuel tank. Or is that a nitrous oxide tank?

Hey, I found it. Check out this description of the tank in question:

"...liked the idea, and agreed to try it, so he sent me a brand new 1977 Harley Davidson XL-1000 Sportster, a true black beauty, to build from. I put exactly three miles on it, and then the fun began. I yanked out the engine and built two 1,500-lb. thrust hydrogen peroxide rockets, which I mounted one on top of the other, directly underneath the fuel tank."

That's an interesting read, Charlton Guy. Thanks for posting the link. It sounds like the Human Fly and Evil Knievel had a lot in common. I'm not sure if it was bravery, stupidity or just plain craziness! :D

BlueBolt -- AWESOME! What a great scan, I really like "vintage feel" of that clip. I may need to update that eBay Guide at some point and feature that odd newspaper 'blurb', I'm certain it's one-of-a-kind!

What?! How dare you, Sir! Being someone who appreciates things that are "so bad they're good", I'd almost expect you to be a closet-Fly-fan yourself, C.G.!

Nah, seriously... I love how BlueBolt's ComicsBid sellers introduction has apparently turned into a Human Fly archive of sorts.

Yeah, that great newspaper 'blurb' pretty much sums it all up:

"Faithful chauffeur bodyguard" ~ Hey, even Batman has Alfred and obviously, those tights are not going to zip up by themselves.

"Gaudy motorcycle" ~ People, it's called 1970's style over function, besides it looks like a pretty sweet motor-trike to me in that picture!

"His most spectacular stunt, stand strapped to a jet" ~ Sure, but he also tore it up with that jet-bike that C.G. mentioned and then there was that time when he and Giuseppe picked up those 3 broads in Atlantic City... <ahem> oh, never mind.

"The Fly never reveals his true name" ~ Hey, it's The Human Fly to you mister, besides 'real' heroes never reveal their true identies, duh!

More Hydrogen jet-bike action:

I'm glad you liked the clipping, SolitaireOne. Your eBay guide brought back some good memories from the seventies for me too. I'm just glad you didn't post an eBay guide to disco. :o
