Without getting into an arguement over the positives and negatives of having your books "Pro Graded" can't we come up with a more positive term than "slabbed"?

How about "No, you may not read it" or "you can look, but you can't touch"? Of course, I'm half-kidding.
I've seen "encapsulated" used. But it's much easier to say or write "slabbed". And I think "slabbed" is commonly used and understood that it doesn't necessarily have a negative connotation. It's generally accepted by most collectors.

Nothing wrong with slabbed. But what's with that bullshit "raw" comics? Sounds like a sore you picked at. Doesn't really matter either way. There is only a small percentage of people who buy slabbed books. I'm betting you ask 100 different people if they buy raw or slabed comics and the majority of them would think you're insane.

How about embalmed? slabbed... encapsulated.... embalmed... all sound like they are dead and buried...
even better... how about taxidermied? that implies you can look and admire what they once were... readable and good comics. (Well presumably good... )
The only protectively shielded comics I have ever bought were opened the day I got them. I mangled one of the books pretty good though taking off that tight plastic covering.
Do the majority of the people who buy these slabs get them to make a profit off of resale or actually keep them sealed up? The only two books I have ever paid to get slabbed I did with the intention of selling them at a profit.
I got one from CGC and the other from PGX...I really couldn't say who was better (I didn't agree with either grade).
I stopped because it seemed like too long of a waiting time to get the books back.

If I'm not mistaken (and I am often mistaken, usually for Robert Deniro's evil twin), I believe the term "slabbed" originated with CGC customers for encapsualted graded coins.
Not so weird I guess, that the same term simply bled over into the plastic encapsualted comic game too.
The fact that the comic slabs do have an uncanny resemblance to a mortuary slab is just a little bit of irony thrown in, but I don't think it's neccesarily a negative connotation, just a bit of genre crossover slang on CGC devotee's part.
When refering to CGC slabs, I prefer the term P.C.M.R. (Plastic Coated Mystery Restoration) myself...

My answer to Hossīs question is yes I have bought some "slabbed" books but I only paid $5.00 for each of them and I only bought them to hang on my wall in my office. I just liked the cover art on them.
