What about this one? No real major defects except for the ink stain. But it's a killer. The problem is that the every page is stained in the same spot. It looks like the ink seeped from the top. How would you grade this one? Would this get a qualified grade?

jaeldubyoo, that's really a tough one. Due to the severe staining that spans the entire book I'd venture to say it's grade is around GD+ 2.5.

I personally wouldn't be comfortable giving it a qualified grade. However, it would be different if the stain were only on the front cover.

JL,

That's a killer defect on an otherwise beautiful book.

The book would be an easy VF+ without the stain.

You could grade the book two ways:

Qualified Grade of VF+ with Big Honking Stain,

"OR"

VG 3.0 due to Big Honking Stain.

Either way correctly describes the book. Biggest problem is that no one will want to spend more than G/VG money for the book because of the stain.

Which is a shame because that book presents MUCH MUCH better than a VG.

Without the stain, I'd say the book is VG, presuming the pages are somewhat supple.

With the stain, I believe it could still grade a F/G.

Nice Book!
