It looks like the Overstreet Guide is ending after the demise of Gemstone Publishing.

:( :(
This doesn't suprise me but it's sad knowing the one book that is & always has been a staple in the comic book industry will be no more.

A few people on other boards feel that this will get snapped up in no time but I've felt for quite a while now that as a price guide that only does annual prints and seems to generally out of touch with the market and the 21st century, it's been past its sell by date for a while.

I'm sure and hopeful that someone else will take up the mantle...this is of course just scuttlebutt right now anyway.

I'd like to see overstreet come to the 21st century as well and maybe add some of those hiden away gems many don't know about.
Um .... on second thought forget about what I said above.. ;)

Looks like the rumor has been put to rest. This email I copied off somewhere online tells the story...
Dear Overstreet Advisors and Advertisers:
Bob Overstreet asked me to send out the following message to all of you this morning. Please share it with your employees, peers and customers with our sincere thanks:
“Rumors tend to spread quicker in tough times than they do when everything is on the upswing, but you can imagine my surprise when someone asked me if the new 39th edition of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide was the last issue of the Guide. I was startled at the question, but then quickly found out that there was indeed an internet rumor to that effect. I’m happy to say it’s just that: a rumor. Gemstone has had some painful cutbacks, but the Guide has weathered ups and downs before, and it’s still here. Our goal is to make sure it will be around for years and years to come. Toward that end, I’m happy to bring you comments directly from Steve Geppi regarding the situation:”
From Steve Geppi:
In the past few days, there have been a number of rumors circulating about Gemstone Publishing. As has been the case with many businesses across a wide array of industries, there has been a reduction in staff at Gemstone, and this included the departure of many valued employees. This, however, is not the end of Gemstone Publishing.
Our flagship title, The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide , remains a vital tool for comic book collectors throughout North America and around the world and it continues to be a highly profitable item for the retailers who carry it. I look forward to making announcements regarding new developments for the Guide’s 40th anniversary next year.
At this time, no final decision has been made regarding The EC Archives or our comic books featuring Disney’s standard characters, but it seems certain that both lines will continue in some form. We all anticipate resolving the issues facing us and moving forward, and I will be happy to announce the specifics once things have been finalized.

What would we do without Overstreet? Every collectible needs an Overstreet. Without Overstreet it's Chaos, sort of.
All kidding aside, I hope we always have an Overstreet. It gives credibility to comic collecting with it's reliable prices , not to mention a quick reference for standard prices so that everyone is on the same page, so to speak , in reguards to pricing.
