I'm working my way through Popular #58 (Dec. '40) and enjoying Martan, the Marvel Man. Here's the plot so far. An alien army of robots has invaded earth, and Martan and Vana, from the planet Antaclea, are sharing their advanced technology with the hapless earthlings to try to help them. Martan shows them how to build death ray rifles, and the earthmen think they can turn out a million of them in a few days. Good luck with that.
So what's Vana working on? "Just a small electric vibrator" of course.

Best though was Martan's suggestion: "Here Vana, stow this vibrator in the rear compartment."

There are so many undertones here I don't know where to start. I love the way they underlined Gay City.
Just because I am lazy and there are too many pics to post separately, the boner stoppers. Makes me laugh every time I read these.

Think I'll reread some of my 1940's books and this time with a new slant on the dialogue.

You think the writers had any idea how funny they were?
