A couple weeks ago, secrets mentioned that this was a pretty good show. I had never heard of it... but a couple days later, I went to my used DVD pusher (great prices on sets, not so much individual movies) and saw the first and second seasons. Fairly cheap, worth a gamble, I decided. Besides, it seemed like something my niece would enjoy.
And I loved it! It's coarse, vulgar, as politically incorrect as can possibly be, and hilariously irreverent! It tackles abortion, race relations, transgenderism, underage drinking, the handicapped and other topics sitcoms usually touch on only lightly. And unlike sitcoms, nobody ever comes out of an episode having learned any redeeming lessons.
Setup wise, it's like Seinfeld, only funny. (Sorry, I just never got Seinfeld). Four 30-ish slackers own/work at an Irish bar in a scary part of Philly. Then hilarity ensues.
So last weekend I was at my sister's and my niece stopped by. I showed her the DVD set and she went crazy. Seems that the week before, while on a business trip to Washington DC, she had stayed at a friends house, and saw Sunny for the first time. (She'd never heard of it before either.) We spend Sunday watching Season 1.
I think Sunny is on FX, and it comes highly recommended. Trust my niece, if not me.
