I have recently decided, after reading for years the benefit of doing so, to transfer my collection into mylar. I have only seen top loaders without flaps and know there are many types out there. I have a few questions I need answered before spend a cubic assload of money on these hunks of plastic:

1. Are the mylars with flaps designed to close and be sealed with tape? (I have seen comments that the flaps don't actually close)

2. Are boards still recommended with 4mil mylars?

3. What is a reasonable average price for 4mil mylars?

4. Is this just a big waste of money?

Currently I am using poly's. I swap them out every 3-4years. I last swapped them out 2 years ago and was relieved hen I was done. I don't have the mile high collection but it's fairly sizable and it was a huge pain in the butt ad very time consuming.

Thanks for any input. Also, I am still looking for Cap vol 1 issues 115 - 198 in f or better if anyone wants to part with theirs.

Hi Blufalkn2,

1) The flaps on the Mylars can be sealed with tape. As the thickness grows, it's a little harder, but it seems to be ok by using clear double sided archival tape.

2) The 4 mil boards can go with or without boards. It's really up to personal preference. Those things are pretty sturdy.

3) If you buy in bulk from me, I can give 5% off the prices at egerber on any Mylar product and they have really good prices as it is. :-D I can also sell them singly, but the prices are not as good...

4) Absolutely not. I have loved the Mylars since I started switching over. These babies will last a lifetime (literally). You'll not need to buy any polybags after switching to mylar.

Anyone interested in Mylar products can send me a PM or wait for me to post my price list very soon.
