OK, assuming for now that the Copper Age started with, say, the original Secret Wars or even The Dark Knight Returns, what did you like about that period, up until the speculators almost killed the industry?
Were you collecting comics back then? What did you collect new?

I'll probably forget some stuff because I liked a LOT during this period. Let's see.
DKR
Watchmen
Killing Joke
Truman's Hawkworld
M. Loeb's Flash
M. Loeb's Journey
Animal Man
Grell's Green Arrow
The Bwa-ha-ha Justice League
Year-One
DD Born Again
The grim and gritty Spider-Man from PPTSSM
The two part 'imaginary story' Alan Moore did for Superman before the reboot (Krypto's death tears me up, but don't tell my wife. She thinks I'm a hard-ass.)
Miracleman (unless this is Bronze, since the Eclipse stuff was mostly reprinted).
Speaking of Eclipse, The Masked Man
Grimjack (again, if this isn't Bronze)
The first dozen or so issues of Sandman
The Black Orchid mini (why this is in quarter bins is beyond me)

Oh, and how did I forget Swamp Thing?

Let's say the Copper Age was around 1984 until about 1993 or so, when rampant speculation really started to hurt things.
I liked many of the same things as CRM there:
DKR
The Killing Joke
The Longbow Hunters (Grell)
Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire on Justice League
Batman: Year One
Miller's return to Daredevil
Byrne's FF run
McFarlane's Spider-Man
Death of Jean DeWolff
Simonson's run on Thor
even the X-Men were really cookin' until the Mutant Massacre!
How about the Tales from the Crypt reissues. That is what first got me into horror comics. Before then it was all superhero.

Since you are talking 1984 or there about to 1993 I was reading and collecting:
Swamp Thing
Superman
Teen Titans
Wonder Woman
Uncanny X-Men
Wolverine
Defenders
Firestorm
Conan
most mini series
same Spider-Man issues
most any new series that came out from 1984 to about 1989 (mostly Marvel) and this is just to name a few titles!

I collected starting in 1993 or so.
Then abruptly stopped.
I was mostly Image back then and 2099 Marvel.
Guardians of the Galaxy, too, was kinda cool.

For me it was :
Secret Wars
Byrne's FF
Batman
Crisis on Infinite Earths
McFarlane's Spideys
Liefield's New Mutants ( back then he was cool) Now he sucks, it seems that Big Guns copycats are everywhere in the 90's
Wolverine( first ongoing series)
Uncanny X-Men (Silvestri and Lee)
anything by Art Adams
Miller's Daredevil
Hmmm.............it does make sense, those books are somewhat popular with collectors that you wouldn't consider it Bronze or Modern. Copper does fit, what you guys think?
Other great books from that time period that I haven't read is:
Watchmen(had 1 book, not complete)
Cerebus
Dark Knight Returns (read 1 book, not complete)

I think during that period I was just buying out of habit and not really reading much. I would get my comics pulled for me each month and just pile them up without reading most of them. I had been collecting comics since 1975 and was becoming burned out. One comic I did enjoy reading during that time was Lone Wolf and Cub (First).

Well let's not forget the indies.. there was some great stuff published by the little guys, off the top of my head
The Tick
Badger
Mage
Nexus
Hero Alliance (if you've never read this it's a very cool book in terms of art and plotline)
Warlock 5 (the original)
The Silent Invasion
Dreadstar
Grimjack
Cerebus
Megaton Man
Sidekicks
and I'm sure I'm missing a ton of great books that never made it.

Can't believe I missed lone wolf and cub...
Gall, I edited the title of your topic since this thread is being moved to the Modern Comics discussion board.
The original title was "What do you LIKE about this age?"

Like JAELDUBYOBDLWDBL....argh, what is your name again???....I continued to purchase titles simply out of habit during the Copper Age.
IMHO, once ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN 1 came out in 2000, it appeared as though many comics started becoming enjoyable to read again, a trend that continues today.
