SPOILERS - SPOILERS - SPOILERS!
Okay, it's been over a week now since the Season 8 Finale of Smallville titled "Doomsday" aired and still no discussion here, so I figured I'd be the one to start one then.
After such a surprisingly good season, I have to say that I'm rather disappointed at the season finale, which seemed rushed and filled with "huh" moments that just didn't make sense.
There was a lot going on in this episode that seemed to distract from the point of the episode which I thought was supposed to be the battle between the monster Doomsday and Clark. But after a season of building up to this climatic battle, the battle itself was, I thought, a huge letdown, ultimately anti-climactic and kind of culminated off screen.
Additionally, there were appearances by Impulse and Black Canary and Cosmic Boy all of which were pretty pointless. More scenes of the growing rift between Clark and Oliver and Chloe. Then Lois and Tess have a fight which actually lasts longer than the one between Supes and Doomy. Then Lois ends up being whisked away presumably to the future, by the LOSH ring. Jimmy Olsen ends up being killed by Davis, who is revealed to be, not the tortured soul we were led to believe, but a psycho killer would-be abductor/rapist. Then theres a "I kill you back" twist of Jimmy returning the favor to Davis in his final moments of life. There's a funeral for Jimmy which reveals that the Jimmy Olsen we've been watching for years isn't the Jimmy Olsen that we think he is, but that it's probably actually his kid brother who ends up as Superman's Pal. Clark walks away from his civilian life (once again) to finally embrace his Kryptonian heritage. Then it's revealed that Tess is working for an alien orb which whispers the word "Zod" over and over...
There was just a lot of last minute stuff that in my opinion really confused the story...whatever it was supposed to be. I really believe that some of this stuff should have been spread out throughout the season instead of saving it all for the finale.
