...that still aren't worth anything?

I'm sure there are lots of possibilities here, but I happened to be looking at my DC's. I came up with:

The Question
Books of Magic

Any other nominees?

By your definition of 10+ years, I'd say these...

Untold Tales of Spider-Man
Thunderbolts (the Bagley issues)

I'm sure there are more.

Recent series that are over 10 years old. I can name others but these favorites come to mind right now:

Dr. Fate - The first half of the series was written by J. Mark DeMatteis and I though he did a fantastic job crafting a story that centered on religion without being preachy. Then William Messner-Loebs took the helm and in retrospect highlighted the new Dr. Fate's strengths and weaknesses rather nicely.

The Demon - I only read the first half of the series written by Alan Grant but his depiction of hell was grand. He picked up from Wagner's mini seamlessly and threw in Kirby moments as well.

Here are some that are very dear to my heart#cloud9#.

Dreadstar-Still the best cosmic saga ever written.Begining in Epic Illustrated,it evolved into a true space opera. The Starlin issues are the best and it went down hill after he left the helm. You can see a lot of themes he played with in Warlock and Captain Marvel and some of his earlier work at Warren. An excellent read that still holds up today. The ending was weak and left us with the impression that there would be more to come, but it never happened.

Nexus-One I still hang onto and buy as the Dude gets around to putting new issues out.Lots of fantastic concepts were explored and Baron's writing was always a treat.Heck,I even liked Mezz.Sure,Mr.Hellpop was screwed up,but he did land Sundra,so he must have been doing something right. This would be one of the most read series if Baron & Rude could keep a schedule.I think it's mainly Rude's fault.Love his art.

Fish Police-Yes,you heard me right.I still laugh out loud when I read the Demolition Drinking issue. And you gotta love a character that makes the statement,"Just 5 minutes with the guy that thinks fish should use stairs."or something like that. The story telling was strong and the art was clean and simple without being childish. The cartoon ruined it.The whole series was well strung together with a very nice ending that always leaves me wanting more.A toast to Inspector Gil#cheers#.

Mage-He wears a Shazam lightning bolt tee shirt. The wizard's name is Mirth. The villain's are Grackleflints. The baseball bat glows. He is the reincarnation of King Arthur. What is there not to like. And the highest priced issue is because of a color Grendel backup story. The first series from Comico was truly outstanding.Something new and fresh that is still a treat ot read. There was supposed to be a third series to wrap everything up but I guess this is another one that will never be finished.A movie was even discussed."WE ARE STILL WAITING MR.WAGNER"!!!#whack##bash1##poke#

These are the ones I'll always enjoy. They were popular in their day but now it just seems like they don't get no love at all.

I don't know how I forgot Suicide Squad written by John Ostrander.

His mini-series Legend that launched new titles: Suicide Squad, Justice League and Flash (there was another? Can remember.)

Swamp Thing - Alan Moore's run only because I did not read the remainer of the series.

From The late independent 80s I also like "The Crow", "Adventurers" 1st 10 issue series, "Grendel", and a lot of the Dark Horse books (Aliens, Predator, Terminator).

I wholeheartedly agree with Toz, Jnine & KenMacny:

Nexus and Dreadstar/Metamorphosis Odyssey are wonderful though I liked Nexus a bit more. Peter David brought Dreadstar down many notches with his later stories at First Comics.

Just read Steve Rude is completing the next issue (double-sized) as it's supposed to finally arrive in July (I think). Rude just announced he'll be taking time off from a regular (?) gig to do big money paintings. Cash seems to be very tight in the Dude household according to a brief interview I read yesterday with him. Can't say I blame him. Wish I had that talent.

Mage. Yeah. Top-notch. I love Matt Wagner's recent Batman minis & enjoy his straight-forward storytelling in his current Zorro.

Alan Moore's Swamp Thing is a must read but the Rick Veitch run afterwards was creepier and done surprisingly well with super cover art. Underrated in my book! Veitch's run ended when DC head-honcho Jeanette Khan wouldn't publish a Swamp Thing story where Swampy meets the Nazerene (Jesus Christ). Veitch left the book in protest. A shame. Character hasn't been done nearly as well since.

Camelot 3000-good stuff....very good stuff...

'Course we could add the obvious: Watchmen & Batman: The Dark Knight.

I think I will be the first to step into the more mainstream types here.

I loved Morrison's run on JLA. Cinematic. J'onn and Superman standing up to Asmodel is one of my all time favorite comic moments. "Fish" and "Man" lol.

I loved the first few issues of Infinity Guantlet (not counting the crossovers of course). I loved the creepy feel and the thought that our heroes just might not come out ahead this time.

OOOHH OOOHh! And Grendel: War Child. I could read that over and over. The art is gorgeous too.

Oops, I didnt read the worthless part. Had to amend this

I considered Sandman too, but #1 lists for $45, so it didn't fit my "worthless" parameter. The one that got me started was seeing The Question, 1-36, $2.50 in NM. Couldn't they have at least pretended that #1 was worth $3.00?

I enjoyed Stray Bullets too, but the unlimited reprints will keep it at no value.

I also liked the "Elementals" and "Justice Machine". Can't you tell I liked the independent stuff. As far as Marvel I liked all the Frank Miller "Daredevil" stuff, the "Micronauts" and "Rom". DC I liked the "Green Arrow Long Bow Hunters", "Swamp Thing" and "Hellblazer"

And yes...the lack of the final volume is very irritating.

He can find the time to go back and update/revive Grendel...but not finish Mage...

These were some great books and some really awesome 'stream of consciousness' storytelling.

Its a good thing you didn't collect it when it came out. You had to have a lot of patience. I can't remember if it was 10 to 11 or 11 to 12 but one of these came out around a year later (maybe it just seemed that long) Anyway Bolland's art is fantastic. The Story is superb. If I remember correctly this was the first series that they used something called Baxter paper, which was a little thicker than normal comics.

I would love to see a movie made on this series.

Stuff maybe slightly off the beaten path:

Grant Morrison's 3 year Animal Man run is still a good read. The guy that came after was decent, but I didn't like it as much.

There's a mid 90's Marvel 4 parter called Code of Honor that's good, done from the perspective of a NY city cop.

Dan Jolley's 2 DC Elseworlds JSA books are also very good, but these aren't quite 10 years old yet.

I have a ton of Darkhawks from that collection I bought recently (I think pretty near the full run). I haven't read those sweet babies yet in my chronological order reading system. (I'm still in 1972). I'm actually looking forward to it though. That was a super hot character for a while that i never got on board with. There had to be some redeeming aspect of it. "NRAMA: No no, dear sir. Keep thinking and people will keep reading.

What do you think made this characters memorable enough to bring back?

JMS: Their visual style, their backstories (maintained here but transmuted a bit, as I did with The Twelve which is going to be finished now that Chris Weston and I are back on the same grid at the same time for a change), and there's a certain dynamic nature to going back to the mouth of the river, so to speak. There was a purity of purpose to the Golden Age characters and their brethren, and that comes across here."

There was a series that originally ran in 2000 A.D. called "Bad Company" that I liked. The comic was a 19 issue series that started in 1988. I do not know whether it picked up where 2000 A.D. left off or if this was just reprinted. I haven't seen the 2000 A.D. Series. The comic follows a soldier who is assigned to an outfit of misfit outcasts. Its the future and apparently a species of aliens, called the Krool, are trying to dominate the universe or parts of it anyway. They torture and experiment on anyone they can get their hands on. The leader of Bad Company is a Hulking Frankenstein character named Kano, who was captured by the Krool and had half of his brain removed a spliced with a Krool brain. Krool is a nasy lot, even Hilter's death squads would have been sickened. Apparently Kano escaped one of their experimental facilities and now leads a band of not your normal soldiers into battle. Think of them as the Dirty Dozen on Acid. The art is grainy looking but it works well here. The comic normally had a back up story totally different than the "Bad Company" series which was great too. To borrow a line from "Outlaw Josey Wells", "When I get to liking someone they're not around long" This was Bad Company, you never new who was going down next. Anyway if the movie studios needs some fresh blood this would be a great story to pick up on.
