I am a batman family fan. However, I admit with the death of Bruce Wayne that I am not all that interested in reading this new Gotham world. DC has released the final new titles this week that will shape Gotham.

I have only picked up one comic from the new titles, Gotham City Sirens. I enjoyed the story and look forward to continuing with this title although my fear is that it will not go much further past 12 issues.

Has anyone else purchased the new Batman titles? Any thoughts?

Here's a list of the new titles. I believe I have them all but I have not finished my coffee yet.

Batman and Robin #1
Batman: Streets of Gotham #1
Detective Comics #854
Batman #687
Red Robin #1
Gotham City Sirens #1

Batman and Robin piqued my interest because it's supposed to be Dick Grayson as Batman. Red Robin also caught my eye because I thought he was a cool character from Kingdom Come. I haven't picked up either yet, because I don't want to get drawn into some big storyline. I'll probably just wait and pick up the trades.

I think Batman Streets of Gotham is the only thing that I will be picking up in trade. I wish the other series well but we already had Dick as batman in Prodigal.

I picked up Batman & Robin #1 but haven't started on it yet. I want to get Red Robin #1 due to Yost writing it. He writes good X stuff over at Marvel.

It's a different Red Robin from Kingdom Come (anyone else think of hamburgers when they hear this character's name?). The only Bat title I picked up was B+R #1, mainly b/c it's Morrison and Quitely. Dick is Bats, Damian is Robin, and Tim Drake is Red Robin.

do not forget Outsiders
which is also very much tied into the "whole thing"-and a very good read!

i admit i was very skeptical
and thought i would hate much of this
esp. Judd's Batman

but for the 1st month this really worked

the only thing i could see
that should have happened
was maybe Batman should have been released before B&R

all grade in my opinion a B+ or better
not a dog in the bunch
what i like is that each book has its own distinct flavor
they all are so different , yet they make sense if you read them all or only read one or two

as of now i am in no hurry for Bruce to return

who would have thought DC could remove Batman and Superman
from their titles , and make it all work

this should be a fun summer of reading
so much good stuff coming out

just need more time to read all of this

that is a very good
point

but this reads very different (and they even have brought this up in one of the stories )
because in the "prodigal" storyline , he knew bruce was returning
in this , they really think bruce is dead
( well , except Tim and that is the angle of his solo title )

I would think they would be playing up that dead angle. So in Prodigal you get a Dick that does not feel worthy of the cowl and now? Is he written as a confident super-hero with some griefing thrown in?

The Batman and Robin does not interest me at all. I am not a huge Morrison fan on Batman. However, I have heard good things about the first Batman issue under Winnick's pen which is kinda of scary. Hopefully he can carry the characters for the long haul. I am going to see if a LCS by me has the issue.

Outsiders, I dropped this book somewhere around issue 5 and never looked back. Perhaps, once Dixon left it improved but the team does not interest me at all. I liked some of Winnick's writing on the team when Dick was the leader. *I am going to run away now after admiting that*

with Dick replacing Batman , it is kind of the opposite to what you are thinking , in Prodigal he knew it was a temporary thing , were as in the new storyline , he is a reluctant , and a not always confident Batman (Alfred is playing a key role in "helping" him deal with all of this)

one thing i really like , is the distinction between the Dick/Batman and Bruce/Batman
it is not the suit that makes the man , but rather the man that makes the suit

a couple of other points
Outsiders is much better then it has ever been
the current storyarc has given Alfred time to really shine
and the book looks beautiful

GM"s Batman and Robin is worth a try
even people i know that disliked his earlier takes on Batman
really liked the 1st issue

if i compare it to anything , and it is kind of hard to after one issue
think maybe GM's JLA run

the 1st issue was high octane storytelling

a very fun read

The "not always confident Batman" does sound extremely like Prodigal storyline although I don't recall Alfred playing a role so that is a nice twist.

I got Batman 687 to test the waters but I will not get Batman and Robin and indulge Morrison's grandstand behavior on any more bat titles. I'll post back after I read the issue.

Thanks for the rec, comicman. I picked up Batman 687 and 688. I thought 687 was fantastic and 688 is off to a good start. It's too bad that Winnick is only doing this one story arc. I believe that Tony Daniels is going to take over next.

I have heard only great things about this book. I will not get anything Morrison-Batman until after he has finished or states that he has finished the story. Sorry but I am not a huge fan of his work.
