I am mortified....

I know some things have to be done in order to keep this joint running, thus the Feebay links on our home page, but having this particular seller, and this particular BOOK featured on our home page is driving me beserk! (More beserk than usual that is):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170371995023 (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&campid=5335809863&toolid=10001&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dl l%3FViewItem%26item%3D170371995023)

I have no control over these particular links, so Hoss or JDB, please see what you can do.

Thanks,

C.G.

Agreed.

Very bad form to have links to his auctions.

He is known for cracking slabs and selling the books raw at higher grades. He states that the only does this when CGC gets it wrong and the books should be a higher grade. There is alot of other shady things I have heard about him but what I mentioned I have seen proof. He purchased slabs on ebay and immediately turned around and resold them raw at higher grades.

I'm gonna have to defer this one to Hoss, as I have no idea how to remove particular ads from the site without starting a chain reaction which creates a black-hole, which causes the whole site to travel backwards through time creating an alternate timeline...ah, it's a mess!

But I agree, no need for that sort of rubbish here!

It always boggles my mind (even more than it is usually boggled) when collectors plead ignorance to this guys practices.

I would think we'd agree that there is nothing inherently wrong with practicing the first sentence. I'll defer to CG, Stu and some of you others on the rest cuz quite frankly, the books in question are in a league I don't play in.

Just do a Google seach for Robojo33 or comic-keys and see what I mean.#shock#

I think alot of collectors, myself included don't spend alot of time worrying about or researching comics that aren't on our radar or ever will be. The next time I start looking to buy an FF #1 or CGC a comic will be the first time.

Sounds like a quote from the Warsaw ghetto in 1939.

Does that mean we should all stand by in the wings and watch people get defrauded on a week by week basis by this jack-wipe and pretend it isn't happening?

Thats cool. Been there.

My point wasn't to deny/ cover up / or ignore any crappy or deceptive seller just to point out alot us bottom dweller collectors don't keep up with this stuff and this might be the 1st time its brought to our attention.

Oh yeah, Robojo can suck it! When this seller first came to light, after the "you can't run an auction if you have Private FB", I was open-minded about him (I do try to be objective, honest!). But here's what clinched it for me a year ago:

Sorry I asked.

but, since you called me ignorant, i'll tell you a little story i have kept to myself.

I am, indeed, a bottom feeder. Never bought a comic worth more than $100 and only sold one for more than that once. (walking dead #1 very recently).

I have had nothing but positive relationships with everybody I have sold to and almost all positive with people I have bought from--particularly on this particular site.

recently I have had reason and desire to accumulate more information on this little hobby of ours. Anyways, on another site i happen to use frequently, i stumbled across a thread that pointd out sellers who were "bad"--you know, people to stay away from. One of the sellers listed on there was none other than you, Charlton Guy.

Now, I had been on the Corral before I went there, and all my dealings (limited though they were), with you were positive. So, I questioned the person who had brought you up (just like i questioned you about this robobozo). He answered my questions, and I actually decided that his complaint about you was trivial and decided to maintain my positive impression of you.

At any rate, I truly was ignorant of this robo guy and wanted to find out what it was about him that made you so irate, so as to expand my knowledge base and steer clear of a potential shady customer. Instead of simply answering my question, as the individual who badmouthed you did, you continued to fly off the handle and badmouth me.

Welp, I think you can guess what may be happening to my impression.

At any rate, the site was comicpriceguide.com. You can go check it out for yourself, so that you are no longer ignorant.

I didn't call you ignorant, and didn't mean to insult you in any way. Sorry if I did. I was just pointing out that I continue to find it amazing that people in the hobby, regardless of whether they buy $1.00 comics or $10,000 comics don't know about this guy, that all.

As for the complaintant on ComicPriceGuide, he is out of line. I gave him a full refund for a lost comic. That's all there was to that.

This Robo dude has been around for a long time. He is bad news. He edges books, slaps them out of their slabs upgrades them then refunds buyer who are pissed.

Its a brillant scam and if you go over to CGC you will see buyer after buyer who has had issues with him. He has been banned multiple times from CGC and STL. I think he has even been here at one time.

His scam is really slick. He uses Ebay's Private Feedback as a mask for his issues. Complain and you get a full refund. Get the book slabbed a few months down the road and you find it its been restored. If you go to Toolhaus it will help you out as well. He used to have another ebay id too I think Stu knows it I have forgotten it. Its the main reason why still today I will never buy from anyone on ebay with Private feedback.

I dont deal in any of these high graded slabbed books as a buyer or seller. I still believe comics should be read, but I can understand that chase for the Holy Grail. Buyers just think they are getting a good deal. I am glad I dont deal in high grade Silver/Bronze, but I make it my business to try to know as many of the shady comic dealers as I can so I can ban their ebay ids and avoid any dealings with them. Thank God I only sell Copper/Moderns and dont deal much with slabs. Guys like him just kill our hobby.

What I find amazing is that he continues to have a very profitable thing going. How many uninformed buyers out there ploping down major bucks for his books are there?

Is the old P.T. Barnum addage in play here? There's a fool born every minute?

Tons. There's no robojo chapter in the introductory booklet. Seriously, where would folks find out about him? On a handful of comic message boards. There are other comics message boards. There are many collectors yet who don't do any business on-line. At all. There are tons more who do, but have never visited a comics message board.

Thanks. That was all I needed to hear. I agree with your assessment of the comic price guide guy and had defended you to him. My message was basically--every body messes up every now and then. Apparently you did with him--only once--and you gave him a full refund. that makes you a conscientious seller in my book.

Anyways, had heard of this guy before--just didn't make the connection with what I had heard and the FF auction.

I also agree with what someone else on this thread said. If i am buying a 10 dollar book, I am not wasting time with research of the seller. If I am buying a 10,000 dollar book, you better believe i am turning over every rock. I don't understand how someone plunking down that much money can let themselves be taken. I mean, hell, once I put my 2 cents down on this issue I researched him. It took about 30 seconds to find a ton of info. Anyone can do it. I have to share your outrage C.G.

Hello!

Sorry I haven't been around to see this sooner. I'm on day 5 of 9 so I have only been working, sleeping and going back to work. That ad is completely random, so I didn't know what items it would feature.

I really wish we didn't need the ads but I have to fuel my mountain dew addiction somehow!

Anyway, I'll throw up a different ad until I can figure out how to get rid of robobobobojobos ads. Then I'm totally gonna pass out.

Huh?! But that's just the opposite of the classic scam of purchasing a book raw, cleaning it, pressing it, microtrimming it (maybe), slabbing it and then putting it up for sale at a much higher price, is it not?
