Hello folks! I'm trying to create a cover scan gallery of the EC reprints published by Superior Comics in Canada.

This is what I have so far:
http://ecarchive.fateback.com/Superior/Superior_EC_Reprints.html

I cross-referenced the GCD site and it was spotty to say the least. I've tried to make sense of their data and purge anything based entirely on their info.

I dropped number listings they say exist if I could not locate a scan. I replaced their numbers with just a place marker. My page fixes their numbering and series info on Weird Science and Weird Fantasy. I added a lot of scans. Some a lot better quality. Also added some scans for Gunfighter and Modern Love.

If anyone has a missing scan that belongs on this list, let me know.
I did not put a place marker for missing issues if I already had some scans for a title.

There are definitely Two-Fisted Tales reprints. Many years back I had at least one and I think I had a Crime Suspenstories too.

It's really just a matter of finding the scans. GCD has really spotty listings on this stuff and based on what I've found so far, I'm inclined to believe Superior published more consistently than the current records make it appear. Evidently Superior was publishing content that had been banned, namely crime comics. It appears that they published some books under the name Weird Suspenstories so that they could avoid using the word "crime".

Yeah I do believe that they did some name tweaking. Now that I think about it I think my other title was a Frontline Combat not a Crime title. I will see what I can do about getting you some more images and info. Perhaps I will see if Doug Sulipa has any info.

Don't know if you have read this but it certainly seems to suggest that Superior was regularly publishing EC reprints in Canada.

I found that article. I've just joined Phil Latter's Yahoo Group for Canadian Comics. Not sure if there is any activity going on there. Doug provided me some help compiling my list of Charlton Digests, but I don't really know him that well other than a couple of purchases.

I try to keep several projects going so one doesn't start to get boring. My American EC checklist was the closest to completion, so I figured I'd screw that up and start including reprints.

Well taking on the Canadian (reprint) comics of this era should keep you busy. Those suckers are pretty hard to come by and especially in higher grades. Information seems to be even harder to come by. I will direct Doug to this thread, if he has time, and see if he can help you along the way.

Cool. He said he'd seen either my board or my checklists before. I can't seem to recall which. With the Charlton covers, I'll do light touch-up of the scans to remove date stamps, writing, fold lines, spine creases etc. With these Superior Comics, it's hard to do that. Something that looks like a defect might be a touch-up they did when taking off EC's logo and putting on theirs.

Added scans for Crime Patrol #9, War Against Crime #4, Haunt of Fear #3 (#17 on the cover), & Two Fisted Tales #19. Upgraded my scans for Weird Fantasy #8 & Weird Science #1 (#12 on the cover). I like seeing the gaps fill in.

Still plugging awat at finding Superior/EC scans of the Canadian comics. Donations are appreciated.

Added Two-Fisted Tales #34 & Moon Girl Fights Crime #7

If you've seen anyone selling the original Canadian EC reprints, I wouldn't mind a link.

You probably already realized this, but not all Superior comics are reprints. They did quite a few of their own titles, things like Mysteries, Weird and Strange, and Our Secret, among many others.

Yes. I'm aware. Having collected a near complete set of scans for the original EC comics, I intend on picking at the reprints next. I'm only focusing on the EC reprints from Superior, but I am occasionally downloading any high quality scans I find of their other stuff. I don't plan on doing anything with the other stuff, but you never know.

I checked my Canadian ECs, and I have two that you don't have pictured:

Thanks. Those scans will be tricky to use with pieces missing, but I may give it a shot. I think all the unique characteristics are intact and I am cleaning them up a bit anyway. Either way, it confirms they exist. A large number of these I'm finding are not listed anywhere.

I made both usable! It's not professional scan restoration, but go ahead and sell your book as restored now! (just kidding folks!)

On the other one, I compared it to the American version of the scan I was using and your book was showing more image anyway. I cropped off most of the chunk missing.

Wow, nice work.

The clone tool in my old version of Paint Shop Pro is my friend. I got a lot of practice stitching scans together for my Treasury Comics web site. Since I had a scan of the American comic and the colors were mostly solid, all I really needed was the outline of the missing "E" and the missing blast. I measured a few pixel heights, made sure they were straight and the same size. Then I cloned the corner of the American book onto the Canadian one. The rest was just getting the color shades to match enough that you can't spot it with a quick glance. If there had been any of the Canadian markings missing, I'd have had to just file it away for later use. I have a 3/4 scan for Mad #2 that I can't use. It'd be too obvious.

I've never owned the Canadian versions, nor have I ever owned any of the EC war comics. My favorite was Shock Suspenstories and I own quite a few low grade American versions of those.
