Is this really worth what it is being bidded up to?

Not to steal SP's thunder, but the answer is YES. That's a damn nice copy of that book. I've had lots of EC goldie horror books in the last ten years (and resold them all) and its really tough to find them in any grade over VG.

Hurm .. i swear I posted to this thread earlier....

Yes it is the book is easily in 7.5-8.5 which is quite rare for EC's. To boot this is the first Al Williamson work at EC and the book was used in Parade of Pleasure (POP). In 8.0 it guides at $354 and a 9.0 $534 (or something along those lines).

That is also a book that is ripe for slabbing. GPA calls an 8.5 at $402.50, and the last time one sold was November 2003. I'd wager that if the grade came back at least that high from CGC it would have plenty of room to still move.

BTW I don't think this book would be considered GA either ;)

That's the book I traded to SP, not the original one but the reprint, at least the cover that it has on it.

HI Linda

STL and ox are right! EC comics are very hard to find in the higher grades. I saw this same issue at the LCS in about a FN and he was asking $300 for it. In my experience, when it comes to pre-code horror, the price guides are pretty useless. If I had the money, I'd bid on that auction for damn sure! Oh well....maybe when another one pops up.

I'm thinking of buying those new EC Archives Hardbacks that are coming out.

Russ Cochran is the publisher. If you want more info his email is: russ@russcochran.com. He's on one of the Yahoo EC groups I'm on (as well as Al Feldstein!) so I don't think he'd mind an email. (Just don't talk politics with him, he turns into a real asshole).

What kind of politics does he have?

Those EC HC look nice. I might have to pick those up at some point, but I have to first receive and then read the 5 GA Marvel Milestones I just bought. I'm not sure if I like horror. I used to read stuff like that in the 70's and remember it being fun, but some of the stuff put out in the 90's kinda turned me off to the whole genre. I also relate horror comics to slasher flicks I hate like saw, hostel and any film where people being tortured raped and killed is the main theme.

Hey SP, did you ever check out those movies I suggested, speaking of horror movies? They were
