I see that Comic Supply is selling a dough-like solution for rubbing on comics to remove dirt and grime.
Has anyone tried it? Any thoughts about it?
I've cleaned a few comics with Wonder Bread over the years, but this supposedly works much better.
Would you consider a book cleaned with this as restored?

Personally, I would never order from Comic Supply. In addition, I would never use a food product on paper. Thoughts of introducing bacteria and creating molds come to mind.

I too would never order from comicsupply. There are hundreds of negative posts about their business practices on several different internet forums.
Buy it direct from the manufacturer absorene.com

Wonder Bread has been used for cleaning comics since at least the 1960s, and I've never heard of one becoming infected with a mold.
I've placed a few orders in years past with CS and have had no problems, but I am aware of many issues he's had .
My question is more about the acceptance of absorene in the collecting community.

I don't think they will become moldy only mentioning what comes to my mind about using a food product on paper. However, there are oils in the bread that make it so I would never use it to clean a cover. I guess I should have just said that.

I would never recommend using either wonderbread or absorene as a cover cleaner on any books of any real value.
I am sure either would be considered amateur restoration and would seriously lower the $ of the book.
I am sure that 90% of CS customers .....
Really, if you want supplies, Hoss carries BCW and I stock Gerber Mylars and microchamber paper. We should be able to take care of any needs.

Thanks, but right now the only supplies I need are boxes for golden age mylar'd books.
BTW- I've submitted several wonder breaded books to CGC and gotten Blue labels on them. On the other hand, I've pretty much ruined two books using it, so I also would not use it on books of any great value. CGC does not consider cleaning to be restoration unless a solvent is involved.
I only recently heard of absorene and have yet to find anyone who will admit to using it.

So how many comic covers can you clean with a slice of Wonder Bread before it starts to ruin the taste? Does extra jelly help?

Hi all, I am new but not shy so I will just jump in like I have been here a while.
I would not recommend wonder bread because of mold issue's but Absorene is a good product that has been around a very long time. My favorite aspect of Absorene is the abilitly to dry clean colored area's without rubbing the ink off.
