The same technology that rattles your jawbone so you can listen to calls on this Bluetooth headset empowers the SwiMP3 underwater headphones. This MP3 player-goggles-headphone combo is sure to make you the coolest kid at the pool… or at least the most oblivious and least bored. The concept of swimming laps to music has been around for decades, as evidenced by this Walkman-toting underwater fanny pack. But no waterproof gadget has ever caught on, mainly because no matter how waterproof the Walkman, Discman, or MP3 player, you just can't hear the music amid all that loud splashing. Theoretically, bone-conduction technology would be able to compete with the noise. Going beyond this skull-rocking prototype, the all-in-one SwiMP3 is available now for $200. That's a lot to spend for a player that stores a mere 128 MB of music, but it may be the only system that gives you a fighting chance of hearing underwater. — S.E. Kramer
