I haven't been buying much lately due to the daughter going back to school. I'll get what I can get on the cheap and reap what I sow. I usually bid on alot of nice books just to see if I'm lucky but holding back on bidding higher. I'll also get a nice bonus on Christmas, which means I'll be on the hunt that week. :-D
BTW..how hard is it to get the Slurpee cups complete? I saw the thread over at STL forum, very interesting pics.

My eBay purchasing habits are at a three year low. I have seen a fair amount of desirable and much wanted stuff but I just don't have the greenbacks to buy it. I am spend most of it on bills, way too much at local comic stores, and too much on CDs.
I actually see the end of the road for my major eBay spending. I only need 53 more wonder womans and of those only 16 of those only really show up on eBay. Most everything else I want will eventually come through stores (online or local) ... except some of he pence Variants I would like ... that are not crucial to have.
I actually despise eBay (and PayPal since eBay bought them)

Me, Me, Me!!! #hello# I have found myself spending WAY TOO much money on ebay lately!!
But I can't seem to help myself!!!
It's so much nicer, to seach on ebay than it is to get down on the floor and go through old comics!! It's way better for my knees you know!!

I'm the complete opposite! I haven't bought any books on eBay for months now! I'm already spending way too much on new issues!

Hi everybody, welcome back. Oh, wait a minute, I'm the one who's been gone.
I'm buying at my usual pace, 17 Golden Age oddball stuff over the last 3 weeks, since getting back from China. Such as:
Joan of Arc A-1 #21
Animal Comics #24
Bugs Bunny Vacation #1 (VF!)
Mary Worth #1
4 Wheaties Premiums
Ken Shannon #5
Raggedy Ann and Andy #11, #13
The rest were newspaper reprints such as Ace, Popular.
Nice to be back!

Speaking of buying stuff on Ebay. I got a couple items over the last week or so:
-Franklin mint spiderman knife. (this is very cool item got it two days after I paid too!)
-both #1 variants from Captain america vol3, signed by Liefeld/Sibal/Loeb CHEAP!!
-2004 Team signed Cubs baseball
But the most frustrating one of all: I got the Captain america vol2 #1 variant from this years Chicago con. (I wrote a thread about it a couple weeks ago) It was put out by Jay Company comics. So when I saw it on ebay from the actual company who put it out I ignored their feedback and bid on it. Needless to say there have been several issues:
1. They still haven't accepted my PAYPAL (paid moments after winning on the 18th of OCT)
2. No response to 3 emails.
3. Noone answers the phone there.
Has anyone dealt with them before?
Whew.. I feel better now that I got to vent. Thanks Corral!!!
(sorry about the CGC joke on the welcome back thread)

actually, I haven't bought anything at all off ebay for about 6 months now.
coincidently, about the same time as they pulled my store items out of search and raised the fees.
Used to buy all the time for reading, then resale.
Maybe it's time to visit somewhere other than ebay for stuff! (hint, hint)

Ummm.........exactly it isn't almost over, you see, there's aftermath, tie-ins, new series spawned from Civil War such as Omega Flight, Mighty Avengers, etc...........#oldie#

Is the book in question the one you posted a while back with the hideous Liefeld art from the company that produced the variant cover which you bidded on is the same company that sells it?#popcorn#

You are correct sir.

No, it's just that you made everyone aware of Jay Co. about what they are and it's good to know what are we dealing with here.
No harm intended here, it's just that it's awesome you found the book, only that it's rare and then the company that prints it(Jay) and sells it seems to have some blackmail hold on it. Makes you wonder why they're rare cause it's hard to get from a seller when the service sucks.

Yes, buying way too much. I've even seperated my purchases into categories that I now bid on with different ID's all using Auction Sniper. VERY DANGEROUS! Got myself way in debt and now need to sell. So now I am shutting down the buying engine and reving up the selling one. Although I did work a payment plan with someone on an All Select #3 and will be paying on that every week. I have ventured into the Golden Age and become a Schomburg fan. I think I will be buying less books from now on but not necessarily spending less.

marvelguy,
There seems to be alot of this kind of crap going on with the "larger" domestic entities of the comic industry.
I have been reading some pretty shady stuff about CGC/Wizard/Heritage/mile high.. and now I get to add Jay company to the list of those slowly whittling away at the hobby we all seem to be holding on to with great fervor!

There's a new LCS in my neck of the woods, so I've been loading up on back issues there for the last six months or so rather than going for ebay offerings.
I also picked up several longboxes worth of stuff at the various summer flea market/yard sales, so I'm still digesting those.
I have picked up some occasional Charlton SA gems on ebay though. Some things can't be resisted.
But in my book, ebay is an also-ran for general aquisition.

Well, I finally did it! I broke my Negative feedback cherry.
The final straw: I called Jay company comics and low and behold...their number is no longer in service!
Thankfully they never claimed my payment so I got my money back. And the wierd twist to this whole thing, someone on their end actually left me positive feedback!? On the same day the auction ended.
"Uncanny" if you will!

Ughhhh, I can't stop buying. I'm gonna get evicted soon, my power was shut off last week, I am driving on a suspended license. I am spending over $600 a week on comics and reprint books. And the worst thing of all is that I am spending ten times more time buying them than reading them or selling them. AHHHHHHHH.....Must stop bidding. I have a guy who wants to sell me a All Select #3 in like 7.0 and I can't get around to it because I keep bidding on smaller stuff. But damn, my DD ASM and X-men collections are getting nice. I only need about 60 more comics, and most are higher #'s to fill my DD run.

No, I've never been really what most would call "good with money" My power was shut off the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, but I got it back on Wed. and I am about $1800+ behind in rent. And I am still buying about $600 a week in comics. I can't stop. By the way, did you know that they made a lot of comics in the last 50+ years? And did you know that there are a lot of them that have first appearances and cool covers and great stories and sometimes a character dies or is resurected or comes out of the closet or accidently says "kike"? I must have all of those. ALL OF THEM I SAY!! ALL OF THEM!! I'tll be ok, I've got a lot of comics to sell and I can put off the bills a little longer. And I shut down my sniping for a while. Truthfully, I need to just chill on buying and read for a while. I'm currently making my way through the DAREDEVIL 1-75 title and have a big run, although not full, of HELLBLAZER to start on next. Boy that DD run is so good it almost makes me cry. The storyline with LeapFrog's, or whatever his name is, son is....Well, it's just damn good.
#poke# In that case...you'll need lots and lots of supplies to store your comics in...I know a great place to pick that stuff up on the cheap! #poke#
Seriously though, you'll need a house to keep all those comics in, so be careful! #oldie#

Dude, if I could stop sniping, I would love to buy some supplies from you. I'm hoping I can put the mouse down for a while, but damn SP and his cover threads, I want that one and that one and.... Not to mention all of the books I want to buy to read. Even buying the reprints is expensive.
Lol! I was just kidding!
Damn you SP!

Silly,
Comics may be a passion but don't let it ruin you. I know how addicting comics may be. Just don't get in over your head. I hope you will be able to dig yourself out of the hole. Seriously, think about your priorities. Okay, enough preaching.

ouch.. silly you gotta not worry so much about the buying right now. The books will still be out there when you have the cash on hand - even 20 years from now. In fact an economic downturn like the one that seems to be developing will even cut the price on books since more people will be selling them to pay off their debts.
So take a deep breath, relax and keep reminding yourself that old books will always be on the market - and with time they might be graded more honestly then they are today anyhow.

True True, but I think...No wait, I don't think that's the problem. I just spent this weeks check. Ohw well, I can always make a small house out of my comic boxes under a bridge somewhere.

They are very sturdy.
But be sure to spray 'em with PAM to waterproof them first.
Perhaps line the outside of the boxes with old comic bags? Keeps em out of the landfil anyway...
SILLYSHIP--pirate eye--
12-06-2006, 03:05 AM
Yeah, I've been thinking of making an art piece out of those old bags. Any ideas?
