Anyone try this new one? I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I really liked the art, but I just really couldn't get into it. Maybe it deserves a re- read.

What did you think about it? Yeah you!

Much as I like Superman, I'm looking at the first issue of this comic, scratching my head and asking "Why"? When is DC going to just admit that their current "regular" Superman titles are going nowhere and that they need to seriously rethink what they are doing with them.

The one positive I can see about SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL, is that it does see to be more or less a "back to basics" approach to the character. Something which has been needed for sometime now.

I read this a couple times, just in case I missed something and...well....it didn't do anything for me. I found the writing to be boring and the art horrible. Don't think I'll stick with this one.

Well the sales are not all that bad. I go back to Superman books every so often but the ultimate problem with the character isn't that DC cannot get good writers or artists on the book it is that just what the hell can you do with a character that is essentially indestructible? Really how can one continue to make a go with parameters like that. Jurgens did a good job for awhile but then the old well what the hell do I do now come into play.

If you think about it the most engaging characters we have liked over the years may seem or act indestructible but we know they are not so that is always there in the back of your mind. With Superman the only really big problem for him is that damn kryptonite but even then his buddies who are all immune to it usually can bail him out.

A similar problem is occurring with Wolverine. They have now essentially made him invincible and more complex that he has lost his original flavour. Hell he even survived a bit of a nuclear bombing recently. Now just how silly is that? Now they have to explain how all of his organs and stuff could be blown off his metal skeleton and yet he can heal.

As far as I am concerned unless a hero can be killed in a regular manner you wil always run into a creative stalemate. I don't know what they could do to make Supes more interesting ... other going back in time and not have him come back from Doomsday laying the beat-down on him. They had a perfect opportunity to replace him with a powerful but vulnerable replacement. Mind you there is no way in hell that DC would have really wanted to roll the dice with that kind of scenario.
